Road Tests on Deck for Men's Basketball

Raiders to face two top-25 opponents this week

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The (RV) Northwestern men's basketball team (15-5, 8-4 GPAC) has two road matchups ahead this week as they face the No. 20 Morningside Mustangs (16-3, 10-2 GPAC) and No. 14 Jamestown Jimmies (17-3, 9-3 GPAC) in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Northwestern defeated Concordia 79-65 to split the season series.
  • Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) led all scorers with 22 points.
  • Grant DeMeulenaere (Sr., Altoona, Iowa) added a season-high 17 points.
  • Keyton Moser (Jr., Hull, Iowa) pulled down seven rebounds, a career-high.
NORTHWESTERN NOTES:
  • Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) is now 23rd all-time in career points, with 1,416.
  • With the GPAC tournament on the horizon, the Raiders currently sit in fourth in the GPAC, a close race that has them only two games behind first place.
  • Despite dropping a game at Briar Cliff last week, Northwestern has won eight of their last nine contests.
THE SERIES:
  • The Raiders and Mustangs meet for the second time this season after Northwestern won an 86-79 contest in the Bultman Center in December.
  • This is the 53rd meeting between the schools, with the all-time series tied, 26-26.
  • In NWC's December win, Craig Sterk led the Raiders in scoring with 17. Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.) scored 15 and added eight rebounds.
  • Northwestern and Morningside are two of four teams in the GPAC with two players averaging over 15 points per game.
  • The Raiders are 16-8 all-time against Jamestown and 7-3 since the Jimmies joined the GPAC.
  • In the first meeting between the two teams, Northwestern needed a second-half comeback to win 65-57 at home.
  • Sterk scored 26 points to lead all scorers.
  • Northwestern has won seven of the last eight meetings.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
  • The Mustangs enter Wednesday on a seven-game winning streak dating back to December 17.
  • They have four double-digit scorers in Skoff, Doble, Dotzler, and Powers.
  • Morningside's only GPAC losses have come to Northwestern (Dec. 10) and Doane (Nov. 22).
  • In their last game at Mount Marty, Morningside hit a season-high 15 threes, also shooting 61.1%.
  • The Mustangs are a perfect 6-0 on their home court this season.
SCOUTING THE JIMMIES:
  • Senior forward Mason Walters earned GPAC Player of the Week honors after leading the Jimmies to two wins last week, running their winning streak to five games.
  • Walters followed up a 22-point, 11-rebound performance on Wednesday with 23 points and six boards on Saturday.
  • Jamestown holds a 6-2 record on their home floor entering the week.
