Raiders Dominant in Home Win Over Concordia

DeMeulenaere nets season-high 17 points, Carlson adds 22

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – After seeing their seven-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, (RV) Northwestern (15-5, 8-4 GPAC) bounced back with a home win over Concordia (Neb.) (11-9, 7-7 GPAC) on Saturday in the Bultman Center. Grant DeMeulenaere netted a season-high 17 points in the win.

Northwestern's dominant first-half performance was predicated by a defensive stretch that held Concordia scoreless for over six minutes of game time. During the run, sparked by a pair of triples from DeMeulenaere (Sr., Altoona, Iowa) the Raiders took their lead from just three points to 19 by the 9:50 mark.

The Raiders continued to expand their lead through the latter stages of the half, as Matt Onken (R-Jr., Marshall, Minn.) scored eight points in the final five minutes, helping Northwestern lead by as many as 24 points. Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) closed the half with a breakaway slam to give the Raiders a 45-24 lead at the break.

The largest advantage of the game came early in the second half when Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa) scored three of his game-high 22 points to put the Raiders up 56-30. Despite Concordia upping their field goal percentage by nearly 20 points in the second half, Northwestern also improved their shooting to up over 53% for the game to maintain a 20-point lead through a majority of the second half.

The Bulldogs put together an 8-2 run in the final minutes, but Northwestern's insurmountable lead proved to be too much as the Raiders kept their unblemished home record intact.

"I thought our guys were dialed in from the start," said head coach Kris Korver. "We defended all game but especially in the first 20 minutes. Sometimes it's hard to be up by 20 against a good team, but I thought our guys did a good job staying on the gas. We held serve at home, bounced back from Thursday night, and now we have a big week coming up at Morningside and Jamestown."
