Raiders Host Jamestown, Hastings to Open 2023

Back-to-back days of basketball in the Bultman Center

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 15-ranked Northwestern College women's basketball team (10-3, 5-2 GPAC) jump back into Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play to open 2023, playing host to the Jamestown Jimmies on Friday and the Hastings Broncos on Saturday inside the Bultman Center.

THE SHOOTAROUND
  • NAIA TOP-20: FG% (4th), free throw percentage (3rd), and Assists/Game (18th).
  • NWC looks to put the month of December behind them going 1-3 and ring in the New Year on a winning note.
  • The Red Raiders have won eight-straight games against Jamestown in Orange City.
  • Northwestern leads the GPAC in free throw percentage (78.5) and sits second in field goal percentage (47.7).
  • Three Raiders sit averaging double figures through the first four games of the season: Maddie Jones (14.5), Molly Schany (14.5), and Emilee Danner (10.8).

  • The Raiders are shooting at a clip of 35.1% from deep this season, sitting fourth in the GPAC entering the week.
  • NWC has a season-high of eight made 3-pointers in the come from behind win over Briar Cliff.
  • When Northwestern shoots 30+% from 3-point range this season, they hold an 8-2 record.
  • Hali Anderson and her 43.9% mark leads the team (min. 20) and sits seventh in the GPAC.
HIGH-LOW ATTACK DUO
  • Maddie Jones and Molly Schany are a high-powered duo in the Red Raider offense, making it a fun high-low offensive attack.
  • Both are averaging 14.5 points per game this season, marking two of the three averaging double digits.
  • Schany also leads the team in rebounding (7.2rpg), while Jones paces the team in assists (4.5apg).
SERIES HISTORY – JAMESTOWN
  • The Raiders and Jimmies have met 19 times in series history, NWC leading 13-6.
  • NWC has won eight-straight in the series when the game is played in Orange City.
  • Head Coach Kristin Rotert sits 1-1 against the Jimmies in her career.
SERIES HISTORY – HASTINGS
  • The two teams will be meeting for the 60th time in series history on Saturday.
  • Hastings holds the slight series lead 27-33 all-time.
  • Though, NWC has won 9 of the last 12 meetings in the series.
  • Rotert sits 1-1 against the Broncos in her time in Orange City.
SCOUTING THE JIMMIES
  • Senior guard Hannah DeMar leads the Jimmies in both scoring (18.5) and rebounding (9.1).
  • Her rebounding mark leads the GPAC, while her scoring mark sits third.
  • The Jimmies enter the week on a five-game winning streak, most recently downing North Dakota institution Valley City State 75-54 in Valley City.
  • Jamestown currently sits second in the GPAC standings (6-1), behind undefeated Dordt (8-0).
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
  • Senior Allison Bauer leads the Broncos in scoring (12.2), while senior Dawson Knode leads the team in rebounding (7.4).
  • Both freshman Mariyah Avila (2.4) and sophomore Katharine Hamburger (2.2) average 2+ assists per contest to lead the team.
  • Hastings sits in the middle of the pack in the GPAC standings (4-4), currently in seventh and just a half game out of sixth (Concordia (Neb.), 5-4).
  • Last time out, the Broncos downed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) 69-54 down in Prescott, Ariz.
  • Hastings will battle Dordt on Friday before the trek over to Orange City on Saturday.
Up Next: Northwestern will finish the first half of the GPAC slate, hitting the road for Yankton, S.D. on Wednesday, January 11 to play Mount Marty University (4-11, 1-8 GPAC) with a 6:00 p.m. tip.
