Men's Soccer Earns First Win of Season

Raiders use three different goal-scorers in match

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – The Northwestern (1-3-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) men's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2022 campaign on Saturday evening, defeating Trinity Christian (Ill.) (0-3-1, 0-0-0 CCAC) in Orange City.

Both teams entered today's match searching for their first win of the season, and it was the Trolls that got on the board first as Alec Belcastro scored his first goal of the year to make the score 1-0 at the 24' mark.

The Raiders kept the pressure on offensively, however, leading to a game-tying goal by Tim Kaltenberger (Cologne, Germany) off of a perfect pass from Riley Aarbo (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Northwestern would extend their lead eight minutes later as James Bolger (Boyle, Republic of Ireland) floated the ball over the head of the Trinity goalkeeper from the right corner of the penalty area.

"The guys executed better today than they had in previous matches," noted head coach Dan Swier. "It has been a difficult start to the season, but now we have something to build on. It feels good to make progress."

With the score held at 2-1 for most of the contest, the Raiders received an insurance goal from Joshua Wingfield (Bronx, N.Y.), who took a Bolger pass and headed it in for the score.
