Sixth shutout win under Andringa; Keslie Paul nets first goal of season

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) picked up a win in front of Raider Nation Friday night with a 2-0 shutout victory over Ottawa University (0-2-0, 0-0-0 KCAC) to open the 2022 Pizza Ranch Classic. The shutout marks the sixth under head coach Shannon Andringa.
An early strike in the fifth minute from freshman Alexa Johnson (Spencer, Iowa), assist to Keslie Paul (Sr., Frisco, Texas), would be all the Red Raiders would need as they would send the home crowd happy with the 2-0 win.

The insurance goal would come in the 59th minute as a free kick from Julie Dunlap (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) would bounce off the crossbar, but to the joy of the Raider faithful and bench, Paul was there to put it away to make it 2-0.

Goalkeepers Kaelin Alons (Sr., Orange City, Iowa) and Jamie Young (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) kept the Braves off the board, combining for two saves. The keepers had help from their backline and the rest of the Raider squad, who consistently kept the pressure on Ottawa's defense all match long.

MATCH NOTES:
  • Alexa Johnson picked up a goal in her third-straight collegiate match; she still leads the GPAC in goals (5).
  • Keslie Paul notched her first goal of the season, marking her seventh goal of her Red Raider career.
  • Paul also records an assist in the victory, assisting Johnson's game-winner in the fifth minute.
  • NWC outshot Ottawa 14-6 (6-2 SOG).
  • Andringa used split goalkeepers, Kaelin Alons playing the first 45 minutes and freshman Jamie Young playing the second half.
  • It marked Young's first-ever minutes as a Red Raider.
  • Alons picked up the win in the net, moving to 3-0-0 on the season.
