Women's Soccer Falls in 4-1 Decision

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – Northwestern (3-1-0, 0-0-0 GPAC) lost their first game of the year on Saturday night, as Carroll (Mont.) (3-1-1, 0-0-0 CCC) used a stifling defensive effort to hold the Raiders at bay.

The Saints held an offensive advantage for most of the match, keeping the ball on their side of the field and stopping the Raiders in breakaway opportunities. The Saints were first to get on the scoreboard when Blair Stapleton found the back of the net 33 minutes into the contest. Stapleton again scored at the 43' mark, which was her seventh goal of the season.

Northwestern cut the deficit in half when Julie Dunlap (Des Moines, Iowa) found Alexa Johnson (Spencer, Iowa) ahead of the pack for the score, Johnson's sixth goal on the year.
It was a battle for an advantage later in the second half before Carroll closed it out with two quick goals by Melissa Dugger to close out the match.

MATCH NOTES
  • Alexa Johnson scored her second goal of the weekend and sixth of the season.
  • Julie Dunlap had one assist and attempted four shots.
  • Abby Noonan (Carlisle, Iowa) totaled six shot attempts.
  • Kaelin Alons (Orange City, Iowa) picked up nine saves in goal.
Up Next: The Raiders will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 7 as they host the Bellevue (Neb.) Bruins. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at the NWC Soccer Complex.
