Women’s Tennis Faces Tough Competition

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's tennis team (3-4) dropped two matches yesterday, Feb. 18, to Grand View University and Morningside University in Sioux City.

Match 1
The first match of the day saw the Raiders take on the Vikings of Grand View. The Raiders battled but fell 7-0.

The Raiders won four total games in the doubles matches. Julie Kutz and Julia Anderson dropped their match 6-1. Ainslie Robinson and Wynne Vandersall were able to take three games but eventually fell by a score of 6-3. The Vikings would win the third match as well to take the doubles point.

On the singles side, Anderson was able to battle but eventually fell by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Robinson also took a few games in her match but she fell just short 6-3, 6-3. Emma Montenegro was also competitive in her matchup.

2. Sonya Ordinteva (GV) def. Julia Anderson (NWC) 6-4, 6-1
3. Kanishka Gowthaman (GV) def. Wynne Vandersall (NWC) 6-1, 6-0
4. Paige Adams (GV) def. Ainslie Robinson (NWC) 6-3, 6-3
5. Elizaveta Ordinteva (GV) def. Jessica Wilson (NWC) 6-0, 6-0
6. Molly Harvey (GV) def. Emma Montenegro (NWC) 8-4
 
Match 2
The second match of the day saw Northwestern take on Morningside in a non-conference matchup. The Raiders fell 6-1 to the Mustangs.

In the doubles matches Northwestern battled and took 12 games from the Mustangs. Kutz and Anderson fell 6-4, and Jessica Wilson and Montenegro were able to take two games (6-2). Robinson and Vandersall battled and took their matchup to a tiebreaker. The Mustangs won the doubles point.

The singles side saw Anderson defeat Aleks Sadowska. Anderson won the first set 6-4 and then dropped the second 5-7. She won the tiebreaker 10-4 to win the Raiders their point. Vandersall and Robinson also had close matches that went to a tiebreaker. Vandersall won her second set 6-2 but lost the first and the tiebreaker. Robinson won her second set 6-3 but fell in a tiebreaker.

3. Tenly Hansen (MORW) def. Wynne Vandersall (NWC) 4-6, 6-2, 10-4
4. Shelain Lewis (MORW) def. Ainslie Robinson (NWC) 6-4, 3-6, 10-5
5. Emma Dahlhoff (MORW) def. Jessica Wilson (NWC) 6-1, 6-2
6. Merel Kooij (MORW) def. Grace Twelmeyer (NWC) 6-1, 6-0
 
Up Next: The Raiders will travel to Indianola and Pella, Iowa to take on Simpson College on March 18 at 2:00 p.m. and Central College on March 19 at 11:00 a.m.
