Jones Lands First Raider GPAC Player of the Week This Season

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Notching a new career-high in scoring in the win at Concordia (Neb.) on Saturday led senior Maddie Jones to pick up Northwestern's first Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) weekly honor of the season, the league office announced this morning.
 
Jones (Sr., Twin Lakes, Iowa) has continued to play at a very high clip this season, as she averaged 17.0 points per game last week as the Raiders began the season 10-0 for the second straight season under head coach Kristin Rotert.
 
The Raiders picked up their first win against Concordia (Neb.) in Seward since February 2013, as she dropped 22 points to lead all scorers in the game and setting a new career-high in scoring for the second time this season in the process. She shot 7-for-10 from the floor, tying her career-high in field goals made in a game. Additionally, she was 3-for4 from deep and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. She grabbed four rebounds and dished out for assists.
 
In the second half come-from-behind victory over Briar Cliff on Wednesday, Jones dropped 12 points, while also picking up four assists and three rebounds as the Raiders erased a 10-point deficit in the second half to win 72-68 inside the Bultman Center.
 
The senior enters the week leading the team in scoring (15.8ppg), dropping double digit points in all 10 games this season for Northwestern. Her 15.8 points per game ranks sixth in the league. Her 81.8 percent from the free throw line also sits top-10 in the GPAC at seventh.
 
Not only does she score at a high clip, she has led the team in assists in six of the 10 games, dishing out a season-high eight against Chadron State (Neb.). On the season, she also leads the team in assists (48), which sits second in the conference.
 
The weekly honor is the first for the Red Raiders early in the 2022-23 campaign.
