Three Red Raiders Land CSC Academic All-America Distinction

Snyder and Van’t Hof both earn second career Academic All-American honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced their 2022 Academic All-America teams, as selected by CSC. Three Northwestern College football student-athletes were tabbed to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) football Academic All-America team in Parker Fryar, Jaden Snyder, and Noah Van't Hof.

Coming off the first national title since 1983 on Saturday, the list of honors continues to grow for the distinguished Red Raider student-athletes. The three honorees brings the Northwestern College total up to 69 since the first Red Raider was honored back in 1980, and the football program continues to hold a department-high 18 honorees.

All three earned CSC Academic All-District honors earlier in the fall to be put on the All-America ballot, as both Snyder (Sr., Larchwood, Iowa) and Van't Hof (Sr., Lester, Iowa) are now both two-time Academic All-Americans.

"These three demonstrate a commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom," notes head coach Matt McCarty. "They are each great examples of what it looks like to be a champion in the classroom and on the field."

The 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Defensive Player of the Year, Fryar (So., Waukee, Iowa) has not only excelled on the football field in his time at Northwestern, but has also stood out in the classroom. The Covid-sophomore linebacker, is studying Biology and Pre-Med at Northwestern College.

A 2022 team captain, Fryar led the team in tackles for the third-straight season, recording 120 tackles through the national championship game. The total tackle mark sits third in program history for a single season. Additionally, he leads the team with 12.0 tackles for loss, and has recorded 1.5 sacks and six pass break-ups. He has also picked off two passes and forced two fumbles on the year.

Snyder (Sr., Larchwood, Iowa) is an Exercise Science major at Northwestern College. This year marks his second-career CoSIDA/CSC All-American recognition, after earning it for the 2020 season. The academic honor goes on top of his on-field accolades of First Team All-GPAC and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.

Snyder, as a team captain, is a leader in the Raider defensive secondary. He's notched three interceptions on the year, after teams made the conscious decision to avoid him after his eight picks last season. The mark sat in a tie for second on the team this season. He also recorded 28 tackles, had eight pass break-ups, and two fumble recoveries.

Van't Hof (Sr., Lester, Iowa), a two-time NAIA All-American, was voted on by his teammates to be a team captain this season, leading on and off the field. The finance major at Northwestern College, Van't Hof has continued to be a dominant force in the Red Raider secondary.

He led the team with his five interceptions, taking sole possession of first with his two picks in the 35-25 win over Keiser in the national championship game. He sits second on the team in tackles (58) and solo tackles (39). In the pass game, he has four pass break-ups on top of his team-high interception mark. He garnered First Team All-Conference honors for the third-straight season and becomes a CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-American for the second-time in his Northwestern career.

To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA at his or her current institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's regular season games and are only eligible once they have completed one year at their current institution, being at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

ABOUT ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA
The Academic All-America, selected by College Sports Communicators is awarded by the organization to the most accomplished student-athletes for academic and athletic achievement. The award is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes, awarded annually since 1952. Only due-paying NAIA sports information directors, and the CSC national office, are able to vote for the All-America teams.
