Second-Half Rally Sends Raiders to Home Victory

Onken corrals 15 rebounds, Moser with a career-high 10 points

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – Northwestern (7-2, 2-1 GPAC) received contributions from across the roster in a come-from-behind win in the Bultman Center on Wednesday, defeating Briar Cliff (5-4, 1-3 GPAC). Keyton Moser scored a career-high 10 points off the bench, while Matt Onken tied a career-high in rebounds with 15. Dillon Carlson led the way in scoring with 17 points.

It was a slow start for the Red Raiders, who fell behind 9-0 to start the contest. The Briar Cliff lead extended to as much as 18 points, as they held Northwestern scoreless for over six minutes to build up a 24-6 advantage. From there, the Raiders started to string together defensive stops and offensive opportunities to bring the deficit to single-digits on a Zach LaFave (Jr., Elkhorn, Neb.) layup with 3:02 left in the first half.

Northwestern carried the momentum through the early part of the second half, using a 15-2 run that culminated with a pair of baskets from Moser (Jr., Hull, Iowa) to take the lead for the first time. Both teams traded buckets through the midway point of the second before the Raiders broke through with a double-digit lead on a Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) layup with just over two minutes to play. Northwestern put the finishing touches on the game when LaFave was given an open layup on the fast break to put the Raiders up by six with 20 seconds remaining.
