No. 25 Red Raiders Return to GPAC Play This Week

Raiders host (RV) Briar Cliff Wednesday, on the road at Concordia (Neb.) Saturday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's basketball team (8-0, 3-0 GPAC) puts their eight-game winning streak on the line this week, returning to Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play with a pair of contests this week.

THE SHOOTAROUND
  • NAIA TOP-20: FG% (5th), Assists/Game (7th), Turnovers/Game (T12th), and PPG (14th).
  • For the second-straight season under Kristin Rotert, NWC has won their first eight games of the season and started the GPAC play 3-0.
  • Northwestern looks to go undefeated in the month of November for the second-straight season under Rotert.
  • Under Rotert, the Raiders are 16-0 in the month of November.
  • The Raiders are one of three GPAC teams to average 80+ points per game (Dordt, Doane).
  • Northwestern is one of two remaining GPAC teams to be undefeated (Dordt, 7-0).
  • Three Raiders sit averaging double figures through the first four games of the season: Molly Schany (16.3), Maddie Jones (15.5), and Emilee Danner (13.0).
  • Taylor VanderVelde now sits top-20 in program history in career assists (335, 19th).
OFF TO A FAST START
  • Maddie Jones is keeping her foot on the gas pedal, averaging 15.5 points and 5.0 assists per game.
  • She's led the team in assists in five of the eight games this season from her point guard position, with a career-high eight on Saturday against Chadron State.
  • She leads the team in assists (40) and steals (23).
  • Jones is third on the team in field goal percentage (.514).
GETTING TO THE LINE
  • Northwestern leads the GPAC with their 180 free throw attempts this season.
  • They've made a league-high 125 free throws, one of three teams to make 100+ on the season.
  • The team's 75.0% from the charity strike sits tied for second in the GPAC.
  • Senior Maddie Jones leads the team in free throw percentage (min. 25 att.) at 80.4% (45-of-56), shooting the most on the team so far this season.
SERIES HISTORY – BRIAR CLIFF
  • Wednesday will be the 91st all-time meeting between the Red Raiders and Chargers.
  • The Raiders lead the all-time series 55-35, last winning at home in the 2022 GPAC Quarterfinals (72-60).
  • Since the 2005-06 season, Northwestern is 18-3 (.857) inside the Bultman Center against The Cliff.
  • Rotert holds a perfect 3-0 record in her time at Northwestern.
SERIES HISTORY – CONCORDIA (NEB.)
  • Saturday's clash will be the 63rd all-time between the two teams, as they split the season meetings last year, each winning on their home floor.
  • CUNE holds a 41-22 all-time series lead over Northwestern.
  • Since 2005-06, the Bulldogs have gotten the best of the Raiders in Seward with a 13-4 mark in favor of CUNE.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
  • Briar Cliff enters with a 5-2 (2-1 GPAC) record under first-year head coach Brian Ortmeier, sitting just 0.5 games back of NWC in the league standings.
  • Leading scorer Konnor Sudmann (Sr.) averages 21.7 points per game, and is one of three GPAC scorers to average 20+ points a contest and sits third in the league.
  • Senior Payton Slaughter leads the team in rebounding (8.3) and assists (4.4) through the first seven games of the season.
  • Their only losses this season have come to two top-25 NAIA teams in No. 8 Clarke (53-52) and No. 13 Dordt (81-75).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Concordia enters the week owning a 3-3 (1-3 GPAC) record, dropping their last two contests to Dordt (76-65) and Jamestown (66-49). All three of their losses have come in GPAC play.
  • The Bulldogs are led by Drew Olson, who's embarking on his 17th season helm of the women's basketball program in Seward.
  • CUNE is led offensively by two double digit scorers in Taysha Rushton (14.8) and Kendal Brigham (10.8).
  • The Bulldogs are set to face Morningside in Sioux City on Wednesday prior to hosting NWC on Saturday.
