No. 8 NWC to Play Marian and SAGU in NAIA Pool Play

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College volleyball team (22-7, 11-5 GPAC) make their way back to Sioux City, Iowa for Final Site play of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national tournament. The Red Raiders look to make it four-straight appearances in the Quarterfinals.

FIRST SERVE
  • NWC returns to the Final Site of the NAIA national tournament, after going undefeated in Pool Play last season (2-0).
  • All-time in the national tournament, the Red Raiders hold a 37-33 record (.529).
  • Head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch has led the program to 12 NAIA tournament appearances (counting this season), including six-straight.
  • Fun fact: The Red Raider football team also played Marian in the NAIA FCS Quarterfinals this past Saturday, winning 52-27 to advance to their third-straight semifinal appearance.
HORSTMAN STANDS OUT!
  • Senior Bekah Horstman has been a force all season long, leading the GPAC with her 1.33 blocks per set, and third in total blocks (130).
  • Her .351 hitting percentage also ranks third in the GPAC, recording 269 kills on the season, sitting third on the team.
BIG SWINGERS
  • NWC has relied on the arms of sophomores Jazlin De Haan and Alysen Dexter all season long.
  • The both sit north of 350 kills on the year, led by De Haan's 361.
ALL-CONFERENCE PERFORMERS CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT
  • Three Red Raiders were honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly CoSIDA, Academic All-District honors.
  • Olivia Granstra (So.), Bekah Horstman (Sr.), and Jadeyn Schutt (Sr.) were honored by the CSC for their work in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
THE GPAC = NATIONAL POWER
  • The GPAC had seven teams earn bids to the NAIA tournament this season, all hosting Opening Round matches.
  • All seven teams advanced to the Final Site, dropping just three sets total in the seven matches of the Opening Round.
SERIES HISTORY – MARIAN
  • Northwestern and Marian have met once before in series history, also in Sioux City.
  • The Knights got the best of the Raiders with a 3-0 win at the final site.
SERIES HISTORY – SAGU
  • Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between Northwestern and Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
  • The Knights are led by interim head coach Riley Anderson, who was hired as an assistant in 2019.
  • Marian sits sixth in the NAIA in blocks per at (2.46), led by MH Averi Lanman and her 1.25 blocks per set (9th in the NAIA).
  • The Knights sit fourth in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.254).
  • Skyler Van Note (Sr.) and Jai-Lyn Norwood (Sr.) highlighted the 2022 Crossroads League honors for the Knights as First Team selections.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
  • SAGU's magical season leads them to Sioux City with a perfect 33-0 record.
  • Senior Emma Tompkins highlighted the 2022 SAC Volleyball Awards, earning MVP and Attacker of the Year honors.
  • Setter Riley Burcham (Jr.) was tabbed the Co-Setter of the Year with her 1,114 assists.
  • Head coach Hank Moore was tabbed SAC Coach of the Year.
Up Next: The winner of the three-team pod will advance to the Quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament, beginning on Saturday, December 3 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
