Raiders Down NCAA DII Chadron State on Home Floor

Maddie Jones notches a career-high eight assists

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 25-ranked Northwestern College women's basketball team (8-0, 3-0 GPAC) picked up their eighth-straight win of the season with an 88-59 win over National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II foe in Chadron State (Neb.) (0-5, 0-0 RMAC) Saturday night inside the Bultman Center. Maddie Jones etches a career-high eight assists in the win.

"I am very proud of our effort and toughness against a solid (NCAA) Division II team in Chadron State," noted head coach Kristin Rotert. "We were unselfish with our passing and made great decisions, only committing 10 turnovers against a team with very athletic perimeter defenders."

Both teams put up 20+ points in the opening quarter, in the second-highest scoring first quarter for the Raiders this season. Emilee Danner (Sr., Westside, Iowa), once again, erupted for nine points sparking the Raiders in the latter half of the period.

The Red Raiders separated themselves with their third-highest scoring quarter of the season, putting up 29 points helping them take a 15-point lead into the locker room. It was the guard play that sparked the explosive offense, as Jones (Sr., Twin Lakes, Iowa) and Hali Anderson (So., Saint Ansgar, Iowa) put up 10 and eight points, respectively, in the frame. Leading 26-24 a minute into the second, a pair of free throws from Jones sparked a 12-2 run that proved to be the difference in the game. Northwestern would never surrender a double digit lead the rest of the game.

"In the second quarter we settled into a really good flow on the offensive end and executed well both in transition and in our half court game," said Rotert. "We were able to capitalize on some mismatches while also making plays in the open floor."

The second half just saw Northwestern push up their lead, and finally putting it up to 31-point lead thanks to a Molly Schany (Jr., Emmetsburg, Iowa) lay-up in the fourth. The Raiders would lead by as many as 33 points in the final frame, but would take the comfortable 88-59 win to improve to 8-0 on the season.

"Hannah (Nerem) made a great impact for us on the offensive end of the floor tonight," concluded Rotert. "She established a great post presence for us and was able to maximize her matchup in the paint."
