Three Volleyball Athletes Named CSC Academic All-District

Olivia Granstra, Bekah Horstman, and Jadeyn Schutt earned Academic All-District honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Northwestern College volleyball student-athletes Olivia Granstra, Bekah Horstman, and Jadeyn Schutt were named 2022 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) level.

"These three are incredibly driven young women," head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch said. "Their hard work and dedication on and off the court have been great examples to the younger athletes on our team."

Granstra (So., Sheldon, Iowa) took over the team's libero duties this season, leading the team in digs (518) and digs per set (5.13). Her performance on the court garnered her Second Team All-Conference honors, where she sat fifth in the conference in digs and digs per set. Academically, Granstra is an Elementary Education major at Northwestern College.

Horstman (Sr., Pella, Iowa) came back for her Covid season this year and once again sat near the top nationally in blocks. She led the GPAC with her 1.33 blocks per set, while her total blocks sat third in the league. Nationally, for the second straight season, sat top-10 in the nation in her blocks per set mark. The Pella, Iowa native sits third on the team in kills from her middle hitter position, sitting at 269 entering the final site of the national tournament. Horstman is a Nursing major at Northwestern College.

As a business management major at Northwestern College, Schutt (Sr., Orange City, Iowa) has been a menace behind the service line all season long. She sits second on the team in service aces (44), which sits third in the GPAC. The Orange City native notched 258 assists playing in all 29 matches (101 Sets) for the Red Raiders this season.

To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA at his or her current institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's regular season games and are only eligible once they have completed one year at their current institution, being at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Granstra, Horstman, and Schutt will now be placed in an NAIA-wide pool for CSC Academic All-America voting. Only due-paying NAIA sports information directors, and the CSC national office, are able to vote for the All-America teams. The 2022 CSC Academic teams will be announced on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
