No. 25 Northwestern Prepares for Two Games Thanksgiving Week

Raiders play at Midland Tuesday, at home vs NCAA Chadron State on Saturday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's basketball team (6-0, 2-0 GPAC) travels to Fremont, Neb. to play their final Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) game before the Thanksgiving break. The team will return home for the first time since the Pizza Ranch Classic on Saturday, November 26 to host NCAA Division II foe Chadron State (Neb.) inside the Bultman Center.

THE SHOOTAROUND
  • For the second-straight season under Kristin Rotert, NWC has won their first six games of the season and started the GPAC play 2-0.
  • The Raiders moved to 4-0 on the road this season with the 81-70 win at Doane Saturday.
  • Entering Tuesday, NWC leads the GPAC in blocking shots, notching a whopping 3.3 blocks per game.
  • Northwestern is one of two remaining GPAC teams to be undefeated (Dordt, 7-0).
  • Through four games, the Raiders lead the GPAC in 3-pt % (36.7), free throw % (80.4), opponent's points per game (50.5), opponent's field goal % (32.7), and tied for first in steals per game (11.5).
  • Three Raiders sit averaging double figures through the first four games of the season: Molly Schany (16.7), Maddie Jones (15.0), and Emilee Danner (13.7).
  • Taylor VanderVelde now sits top-20 in program history in career assists (323, 19th).
DEFENSE WINS
  • NWC continues to lead the GPAC in opponent's FG% (34.1) and blocks per game (3.3).
  • Emilee Danner leads the GPAC in blocks (14) and blocks per game (2.3), being the only athlete in double figures in the category.
  • In all six games this season, NWC has held opponents to under 40% shooting from the floor; and twice the Raiders have held opponents to under 30% shooting (Bethel, Tabor).
MADDIE JONES IS ON FIRE
  • Jones has been red hot to start the season, scoring in double digits in all six games this year.
  • She's led the team in assists in four of the six games, with a season-high of seven against Doane.
  • The senior leads the team in free throw percentage (min. 20 att.) (82.9%), attempts (41), and made free throws (34).
  • She averages 15.0ppg, just behind Schany (16.7) for the team lead, and has a team-high28 assists and 19 steals.
SERIES HISTORY – MIDLAND
  • Tuesday's game will be the 58th all-time meeting between the Raiders and Warriors.
  • NWC holds the 41-16 all-time series lead, with their last win (78-59) coming last season on January 15, 2022.
  • The Red Raiders have won the last four meetings in the series.
SERIES HISTORY – CHADRON STATE
  • Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between Northwestern and Chadron State.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
  • Losing three-straight games, the Warriors enter with a 2-4 record on the season and are looking for their first GPAC win (0-2).
  • Midland is led by 10th year head coach Shawn Gilbert.
  • Senior post player Erin Prusa leads the team in both scoring (13.3) and rebounding (5.0), while sitting just behind the team lead in assists (1.7).
  • Midland has been outrebounded this season (-5.3 margin) and shoots 38.5% from the floor.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • Chadron State heads east with an 0-4 record on the season, and have yet to begin conference play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
  • The Eagles, an NCAA Division II institution, are led by seventh-year head coach Janet Raymer.
  • Chadron State is led by sophomore forward who averages 19.8 points per game and is the lone Eagle to average double digits in scoring.
  • The sophomore also leads the team in rebounding (7.5rpg) and field goal percentage (53.6%).
  • Freshman guard Allison Olsen paces the team with her 3.3 assists per contest.
Up Next: Northwestern will return to GPAC play the following week with a trip to (RV) Briar Cliff University on Wednesday, November 30 inside the Newman Flanagan Center.
