Wrestling Opens Conference Season with Home Win

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – (RV) Northwestern (2-0, 1-0 GPAC) picked up their second dual win of the season in a close matchup with Dakota Wesleyan (0-1, 0-1 GPAC) in the Bultman Center on Wednesday.

The Raiders jumped out to a 9-0 lead after a forfeit win for Luke Jenness (Sr., Primghar, Iowa) and a win at 197 for Kaleb Lind (So. Lindenhurst, Ill.) by a 7-3 decision.

After dropping the heavyweight match, Northwestern bounced back with a forfeit at 125 and a 5-1 decision for Manuel Jaramillo (Sr., Selma, Calif.) over Temuujin Natsagdorj.

Trailing 18-3, Dakota Wesleyan used the next two matches to cut into the deficit, getting nine-straight points on a decision and a fall.

Breckin Sperling (So., Lincoln, Neb.) solidified the team win when he took a close 4-3 decision over the Tigers' Tyson Johnson at 157.

Dakota Wesleyan took the final two matches, although it was not enough as Northwestern held a two-point advantage for their first conference win.

"That was a tough, grinding win," noted head coach Rik Dahl. "I'm proud of Noah Parmelee and how he went out there and attacked! He is getting better every match he wrestles. Also, I'm really proud of Jake Francksen-Small as we needed him to go out there and turn in a gritty match. It wasn't the outcome we wanted, but it was enough to win us the dual."

Up Next: The Raiders will travel to Leavenworth, Kansas for the St. Mary's Duals. First bouts are set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
