Balanced Scoring Leads Northwestern Past Viterbo

Booth adds career-highs in points and assists

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – In the final game of the 2022 Pizza Ranch Classic, the (RV) Northwestern men's basketball team (3-1, 0-0 GPAC) used a three-point barrage to defeat Viterbo (Wis.) (3-2, 0-0 NSAA) 100-77 at the Bultman Center on Saturday night.

The Raiders held a steady lead throughout the game, only trailing on the first basket and leading by as much as 26 late in the second half. Northwestern jumped out to a double-digit lead on three-straight threes by Cael Lundin (Fr., Tea, S.D.) and Kaleb Booth (Fr., Carroll, Iowa) to take a 31-13 lead at 12:02. Booth would go on to hit five threes in the game, leading to a career-high 21 points in his fourth game as a Raider.

Viterbo made matters interesting early in the second half, cutting the deficit to six points on a fast start by Robert Cunitz. However, the Raiders received positive contributions from Conner Geddes (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Dillon Carlson (Sr., Ankeny, Iowa), who both added 11 second-half points. The second half surge was capped off by a powerful one-handed dunk from Craig Sterk (Jr., McBain, Mich.) for two of his 20 points, putting the Northwestern lead at 22 with six minutes remaining.

"It was great to play in front of our fans this weekend," said head coach Kris Korver. "It was a good team win. Our guys played hard and unselfishly."
The Raiders open the year at 2-0 on their home court, a place where Northwestern went 13-2 last season.

GAME NOTES
  • In addition to his career-high 21 points, Kaleb Booth's 12 assists made him the first Raider since Jay Small in 2020 to record 10+ assists.
  • It was the first-career double-double for Booth.
  • Northwestern had five players in double-figures in Booth, Sterk, Alex Van Kalsbeek (Jr., Sheldon, Iowa), Carlson, and Geddes.
  • Northwestern's 19 made three-pointers were the most since December 31, 2016, when the Raiders made 22 against Oak Hills Christian (Minn.).
  • Northwestern has surpassed 100 points in back-to-back games after not reaching the century mark since last year's Pizza Ranch Classic against Cardinal Stritch (Wis.).

Up Next: Northwestern will wait a week to return to the court, traveling to Crete, Nebraska for their conference opener against Doane. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 19.
