Northwestern Starts Weekend with Sweep of Doane

Red Raiders hit a season-high .415; records fifth-straight sweep

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 7-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (16-4, 6-3 GPAC) kept their straight sets victory streak alive with a 25-9, 25-16, 25-17 dominant performance over the Doane Tigers (7-19, 0-9 GPAC), behind a season-high hitting clip of .415 and 11 team blocks.

"We played really well as a team tonight and were very efficient offensively," said head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. "I thought our passers (Granstra, De Haan, Dexter) really kept us in system which allowed Liv (Reitsma) to get in a good rhythm. I thought our serving was also really good tonight."

Leading 6-4 early in the opening set, Northwestern put on a hitting clinic rattling off seven-straight points to take control of the set – and match – thanks to three big kills from sophomore Alysen Dexter (Urbandale, Iowa). They wasted no more time, going on an eight-point spurt with four-straight kills to put away the set, taking it 25-9.

With Jadeyn Schutt (Sr., Orange City, Iowa) behind the server's line, NWC took an early 5-0 lead in the second set and never looked back. The Raiders would jump out to an 11-4 advantage, and upon taking six of the next eight points would go up 17-6. A small four-point Doane spurt would make the set score respectable, but it was Northwestern who controlled the entire set, winning it 25-16. At the conclusion of the second set, Macay Van't Hul (So., Rock Valley, Iowa) led the match with seven kills to her name.

It was more of the same in the final set, jumping out to a 12-4 lead thanks to a 7-0 Raider run. Northwestern would, once again, control the final set, taking it 25-17 to pick up their fifth win in front of the Raider faithful inside the Bultman Center.
