Moser Shines in Return to the Gridiron; Raiders Down Chargers 56-7

Cade Moser tallies 40th-career touchdown reception

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The offense was firing on all cylinders in front of the home crowd Saturday afternoon as the No. 4-ranked Northwestern College football team (7-1, 7-1 GPAC) dominated the Briar Cliff Chargers (1-8, 1-7 GPAC), behind 499 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns.
"Love the mindset our guys played with today," noted head coach Matt McCarty. "They came out and set the tone early."

Northwestern struck for two scores in the first quarter, as both Konner McQuillan (Jr., Leavenworth, Kan.) and Logan Meyer (So., Alvord, Iowa) both found the end zone as the Red Raiders led 14-0 after one.

The flood gates opened up wide for the Chargers in the second quarter, as the Red Raider offense punched in four scores to take the commanding 42-0 halftime lead. The scoring started as Cade Moser (Sr., Rock Valley, Iowa) – back in the line-up for meaningful snaps for the first time since Week 1 – brought in a 3-yard touchdown grab in the flat from Jalyn Gramstad (So., Lester, Iowa). The very next drive, Gramstad would find Moser streaking all along towards the end zone and would drop a dime for the 46-yard touchdown score.

Later in the quarter, it would be Gramstad yet again finding a wide-open receiver, this time in Michael Storey (Sr., Spencer, Iowa) for a 30-yard touchdown strike. Yet again, on the next Red Raider possession, Meyer would break free and score from 45 yards out.

"It was great having Cade (Moser) back," continued McCarty. "He is a great offensive weapon to add to our offense!"

At the halftime break, Northwestern had put up 344 yards of offense to Briar Cliff's 59 yards, despite the Chargers having the ball for nearly 18 minutes in the half. Most of the Red Raider starters would see their day come to an end at halftime, as more second- and third-string Raiders would get to see the field in the second half.

"The defense did an outstanding job limiting the Charger pass game," concluded McCarty. "We played strong as a unit."

The second half saw some second- and third-string athletes see some playing time, able to punch in two touchdowns in the final 30 minutes. For the lone score in the third quarter, Blake Fryar (Jr., Waukee, Iowa) would find Blake Anderson (Sr., Oakland, Neb.) the 13-yard score. In the fourth quarter, Luke Guggenmos (Jr., Palmer, Alaska) would find Ben Vander Griend (Jr., West Point, Neb.) for the final score of the afternoon. Briar Cliff would get on the scoreboard in garbage time with just over four minutes left in the contest, as Northwestern dominated 56-7.
