Raiders Fall on the Road at Top-25 Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb.  – The Northwestern College (6-5-5, 5-2-3 GPAC) men's soccer team looked to build off the momentum of their 6-0 win on Wednesday as they traveled to face No. 25 Hastings (11-1-1, 9-0-1 GPAC). The home Broncos kept their undefeated conference record alive in a 5-0 shutout win over the Raiders as the GPAC tournament nears.
Hastings got on the board early as the conference's leading scorer David Panter scored the game's opening goal less than four minutes into the match.
The Raiders had a corner kick opportunity at 21' which led to a shot attempt by Gerrard Uamai (Dundalk, Republic of Ireland) that went wide left.
The Broncos scored once more before the half when Ryan Garcia made the score 2-0 with less than 10 minutes left until halftime.
Hastings later broke the game open, scoring twice in 11 minutes of play, before Sandro Rubio scored the fifth goal of the game for the Broncos at the 72' mark.
Despite the loss, Northwestern remained in play for a top-four spot in the conference tournament and a chance to host a quarterfinal match. One game remains on the schedule for the Raiders as Doane (2-11-2, 2-4-2 GPAC) comes to Orange City for the season finale.
MATCH NOTES
  • Hastings led in shot attempts 26-9.
  • The Raiders had four corner kick opportunities.
  • Ezekiel Foltz (Sioux Center, Iowa) tallied five saves in goal.
Up Next: Northwestern returns to the pitch a week from today to take on Doane in the final match of the regular season. Opening kick is set for 7:15 PM at the NWC Soccer Complex.
