Second-Half Goals Propel Dordt Past Northwestern

Dunlap nets 22nd career goal, 10th of season

ORANGE CITY, Iowa  – In the 33rd edition of the Sioux County rivalry between Northwestern (6-8-1, 2-6-1 GPAC) and Dordt (9-4-1, 5-2-1 GPAC), the Defenders used two second-half goals to secure a win against the Red Raiders on Wednesday night. Both teams had plenty to play for as the Raiders were looking to move up in play for a Great Plains Athletic (GPAC) Tournament berth and the Defenders were vying for a chance to remain in the top-four of the league standings.

Dordt got on the board early as Karinna Tel scored 12 minutes in with her 12th goal of the season. The 1-0 Defender lead was built up when Jori Bronner scored from in front of the net to make the score 2-0.

At the start of the second half, Julie Dunlap (Des Moines, Iowa) took a shot from beyond the penalty area to cut the Raider deficit in half. It was her 22nd career goal and her 10th of the season. Her 10 goals puts her in a tie for seventh on the all-time single-season scoring list.

As Northwestern looked to edge their way back into the game, Dordt's Avril Baccam took a pass on the left side of the net to pick up her GPAC-leading 17th goal of the year. Minutes later, Bronner scored her second goal of the match, securing a 4-1 victory for the visitors.

The Raiders will have a chance to get back in the win column next week, facing Presentation on their home field to continue the final stretch of the regular season.
