No. 15 Northwestern Wins Top-15 GPAC Clash with No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan

Story Links

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 15-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (11-5, 3-3 GPAC) downs No. 13-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (15-2, 5-1 GPAC) 3-1 to hand the Tigers their first loss in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and open christens the newly renovated Bultman Center with a top-15 victory.

Northwestern dropped a hard fought first set to the Tigers, before turning it on and playing inspired volleyball and feeding on the energy inside the Bultman Center in the first home match of the season – the 16th game of the season, no less.

Northwestern took sets 2 and 3 by the same scores of 25-22, to take a 2-1 match lead. It marks only the second match all season that Dakota Wesleyan dropped more than one set in a match.

The fourth set was one for the books, as the Raiders prevailed 29-27 to send the Northwestern crowd home happy at the first event inside the newly renovated Bultman Center. Both teams had three set point opportunities. Dakota Wesleyan had the first couple of opportunities to force a fifth set, but the Raiders battled and never lost hope. Finally, the Raiders, on their third match-point opportunity, Macay Van't Hul (So., Rock Valley, Iowa/Western Christian) slammed a Tiger over-ball to the ground to secure the home court victory.

Three Raiders hit double digits in kills again tonight, led by Alysen Dexter (Fr., Urbandale, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) with 14. Van't Hul recorded 12 and Katie Peters (Jr., Le Mars, Iowa/Gehlen Catholic) notched 11.

Junior setter Jadeyn Schutt (Jr., Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) had a match-leading 33 assists on the evening and Emily Strasser (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian) had a match leading 19 digs on the night.

Up Next: The Raiders have the weekend off as they prepare to play host to Briar Cliff (6-10, 1-5 GPAC) a week from today on Wednesday, Oct. 6 inside the Bultman Center. First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m.
