YANKTON, S.D. – An offensive showcase enabled the Northwestern College women's soccer team to be victorious over the Mount Marty University Lancers, 5-0, to improve their record to 4-6-1 (1-3-1 GPAC).
The scoring started early for the Raiders as
Julie Dunlap (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) found the back of the net in the 24
th minute putting the Raiders in front, a position that they would not look back from. Dunlap scored again in the 33
rd minute to push the Raiders ahead 2-0.
Emily Hurley (Sr., Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Grand View Christian) scored her first goal of the season in the 40
th minute off of a
Madi Manary (Fr., West Chaple, Fla./Seton Catholic) assist. The Raiders dominated possession for most of the first half as they out shot the Lancers 9-1 resulting in a 3-0 halftime lead.
The second half would see more of the same from the Raiders' offense as they pieced together more attacks. This time around the beneficiary was
Josie Maasdam (Sr., Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) scoring in the 61
st minute and recording her first career goal and pushing the Raiders to a commanding 4-0 lead. A few minutes later freshman
Sarah Hummel (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) would find
Destinee Montenegro (Sr., Paramount, Calif./Valley Christian) for her first career goal to wrap up the scoring efforts for the Raiders.
On the match, the Raiders out shot the Lancers 16-6. The stout Raider defense only allowed three shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Kaelin Alons (Orange City, Iowa/Unity Christian) split time in the net with
Abby Bastian (So., Brandon, S.D./Brandon Valley). Bastian recorded three saves in the second half of the match.
