The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its all-conference teams for the 2021 baseball season and a total of nine Northwestern players claimed the postseason honor.  GPAC Press Release

Two Raiders, Colton Harold and Dylan Kirkeby, were named to the 17-player first team.

Colton Harold - 1st Team

  • second on team with .333 batting average
  • ranked among the GPAC's top 10 in:
    • home runs (12) - 6th
    • RBI (42) - T9th
    • slugging % - .655 (10th)
  • named NAIA / GPAC Player of the Week - April 6
  • 12 home runs this season is 3rd most in program history
  • finished career 4th with 24 home runs
  • finished career T4th with 43 doubles
  • 2x all-conference selection (2019-HM)
Colton is such a steady player who can do so many things on the diamond," said Northwestern Head Coach Brian Wede. "He started games at 3B, 2B, and RF for us and was a force in the middle of our lineup for the entirety of his career. Colton's consistency in performance and presence in the middle of our lineup was something that GPAC coaches could not ignore."

Dylan Kirkeby - 1st Team

  • tied for the team lead in wins (5)
  • posted a team-best 5-1 record
  • ranked third in the GPAC in ERA (2.73)
  • limited opponents to .224 batting average, 5th best in GPAC
  • second on the team with 62.2 innings pitched
  • went unbeaten in his last six starts (4-0)
Dylan has grown so much over the last two years," said Wede. "He has matured mentally on the baseball diamond and is a dominating force on the mound because of that growth. Dylan carried us the last two weekends of the regular season when we needed wins. His ability to get ground balls and keep his pitch count low was key to his late season success."
Seven Raiders received honorable mention honors.

Kip Cullinan - Honorable Mention

  • fourth on the Raiders with .310 batting average
  • tied for second on team with five home runs
  • second in RBI (26)
  • 14 extra-base hits
  • posted team's best fielding percentage .988  (min: 50 chances)
Kip is one of the more talented hitters I have coached and his ability to hit the ball hard in so many areas of the strike zone is unique," stated Wede. "When Kip is swinging with confidence, he is one of the more dangerous hitters in the GPAC. As Kip continues to grow as a player, he will become a bigger force in our league."

Sutton Derr - Honorable Mention

  • led team with .349 batting average
  • ended season with a 16-game hit streak; 5 multi-hit games during the streak
  • tied for  third on team with 28 runs scored
  • totaled 10 extra-base hits and 16 RBI
  • 2x all-conference (2019-2nd team)
Sutton has been an annoying piece of our lineup for three years to opponents," commented Wede. "His career average is one of the highest that I have ever coached and his ability to get hits is uncanny. Sutton has brought energy to our dugout since he got here and is someone we could count on to give his best effort every single day."

Eli Rash - Honorable Mention

  • hit .289 at the plate, 5th best average on team
  • accounted for 18 runs and 21 RBI
  • totaled seven extra-base hits
  • started 43 games at shortstop
“Eli had a really great freshman season despite battling through injuries during the second half of the season,” said Wede. “Eli still answered the call and found a way to be an important piece of our lineup and defense despite not being 100%. I am really proud of him for finding a way to both get on the field and be successful. I can’t wait for Eli to be healthy again and build on the success from this season.”

Brady Roberts - Honorable Mention

  • went 3-6 with a 3.45 ERA on the mound
  • totaled 53 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched
  • shared team-high honors with two saves
  • 2x all-conference (HM - 2019)
Brady is undoubtedly the leader of our pitching staff and is someone that brings a contagious work ethic and attitude to the diamond," said Wede. "He has worked hard to make some adjustments in his game and has improved each year. With two years left we are really looking forward to watching him continue to lead and improve as a pitcher and leader."

Brett Shelton - Honorable Mention

  • ranked sixth in the GPAC in innings pitched (70)
  • shared team-high honors with five wins (5-5)
  • limited opponents to .243 batting average, 9th best in GPAC
  • totaled 61 strikeouts
  • one complete game
  • accounted for one save
Brett had a great freshman year and won some big games for us," said Wede. "He was a key piece to our rotation and will continue to improve every year just like he did from his CoVid year. The game that he threw at Oklahoma City was one of the best games I have seen against a ranked opponent since being Northwestern’s coach."

Sam Stanford - Honorable Mention

  • ranked 3rd on team with .311 batting average
  • closed season on five-game hit streak
  • scored 19 runs to go with 17 RBI
Sam is a really talented player who made a ton of plays once he got in the lineup every day," stated Wede. "He made some very difficult plays at third base and came up with some key hits down the stretch for us. I was really pleased with Sam's freshman season and look forward to watching him continue to improve."

Ben Zeutenhorst - Honorable Mention

  • posted 3rd best ERA on team (3.58)
  • struck out 18 batters in 27.2 innings as both a starter and reliever
I am so proud of Ben for the season he had," said Wede. "Zeuty was so valuable to us out of the bullpen this year and really has worked hard to earn this honor. He shows up every day and does the work needed to improve and has seen some really fun improvements during his career."

Northwestern finished the 2021 season with a 19-27 overall record and seventh in the GPAC at 12-16.
