Raiders season ends with loss to Doane

| By:
The Northwestern College men's tennis team had its season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to Doane in the quarterfinals of the GPAC Postseason Tournament played today in Fremont, Neb.

The Raiders finish the 2020-21 season with a 5-10 record.

Said Head Coach Monte Tilgner, "We played very well against Doane...I wish we could have played all the singles matches as we were looking good in the three that were not able to finish. At the GPAC tournament, once the doubles point is decided, the remaining match is stopped immediately and the same occurs once one team gets to 4 total team points. We were tied or ahead in the remaining three singles matches when they were stopped due to Doane having won 4 team points. The way were playing, it and easily could have been a 3-4 loss. That is a great improvement from the 0-7 loss a month ago. We showed progress throughout the year and were a few points from placing fourth in the conference. Our seniors, Chris Jelken, Bradley Bourland, Peyton Scott, and  Juan Mackery will be missed but have helped move the program in the right direction for the future. We have some good recruits coming in next year, and return current sophomores Brian VandenBerg, Nic VanRijs, and freshmen twins Jack and Noah Roisum who all played in all our varsity matches this year. I am already excited for next season."
