Eight-Run Second Inning Leads To Game One Win

The Northwestern College baseball team pushed eight runs across in the second inning, leading to a 12-4 win over Midland in game one of a GPAC doubleheader played this afternoon at Moeller Park in Fremont, Neb. Northwestern dropped the nightcap 13-5; the Raiders are now 9-13 in the GPAC, 16-22 overall.

    Game One: 12-4 win
  • three straight singles from Evan Olesen, Colton Harold and Kip Cullinan, followed by a sacrifice fly by Sam Stanford, led to a two-run first inning
  • Northwestern blew the game open with an 8-run second inning, sending 11 batters to the plate
    • Olesen had a two-run double
    • Harold smashed a two-run home run
    • Stanford, Sutton Derr and Jaden Snyder all contributed RBI singles
  • Brett Shelton (5-3) shut down the Warrior bats over the final six innings, earning his team-leading fifth win of the season
  • Ben Zeutenhorst pitched a scoreless first inning
  • Northwestern totaled 15 hits, three each by Harold, Cullinan and Derr
    • Olesen, Stanford and Snyder all had two hits each
    Game Two: 13-5 loss
  • the teams traded 3-run innings over the first three frames
    • Midland plated three runs in each of the first and third; Northwestern came back with three runs in the second
    • following a walk by Eli Rash, Stanford, Derr and Snyder all hit RBI singles, leading to the Northwestern runs
  • Northwestern scored two runs in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a Midland error and aggressive baserunning, trimming the Midland lead to 6-5
  • Midland responded with a run in the fourth, fifth and put the game away with a three-run sixth inning
  • The Raiders totaled six hits, all singles
    • Stanford and Derr both had two hits and scored a run
  • Nate Rice (0-1), the second of six Northwestern pitchers, allowed one hit, three runs in 2.2 innings
