Softball Earns Split vs Concordia

Kameryn Etherington pitched a complete-game, four-hitter in leading the Northwestern softball team to a 7-1 win in game two of a GPAC doubleheader played today in Seward, Neb. Northwestern dropped game one 4-3 and is now 2-2 in the conference, 15-7 overall; Concordia dropped its first league game (3-1) and is now 17-3 this season.

    Game Two:  7-1 win
  • Scoring Plays:
    • Erike McKenney put Northwestern in front 1-0 with a RBI single in the first, scoring Jennifer Boeve
    • Northwestern plated four runs in the third; McKenney hit an RBI single, Kameryn Etherington drove in two with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Emily Strasser
    • Boeve drove in Madysn Grotewold with an RBI single in the fourth, giving the Raiders a 6-0 lead
    • Concordia plated its lone run in the fifth on a lead-off double by Hhana Haro who scored after a groundout from Regan Karel
    • Northwestern capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh, scoring pinch runner Alayna Bakke
  • By the Numbers:
    • Etherington (10-2) earned her 10th win of the season, giving up three singles and one double, in the full seven innings
      • The freshman retired the first nine Concordia hitters; she struck out six
    • Northwestern totaled 11 hits, led by Erika McKenney who went 3/4 with 2 RBI
    • Jennifer Boeve, Emily Strasser and Madysn Grotewold all had two hits; Etherington belted a two-run triple
    • Jerzi Rowe (5-2) took the loss, giving up six hits, five runs in 2.2 innnings

  • Scoring Plays:
    • A three-run, third inning put Concordia in front 3-0; Tori Homolka hit a three-run double, scoring Kylee Nixon, Jenessa Jarvis and Camry Moore
    • Northwestern tied it with a three-run fifth inning; Emily Bosch drove in two with a triple and scored after an RBI single from Jessica Mouw
    • Concordia scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with two outs on a ball hit by Haro
  • By the Numbers:
    • Etherington (9-2) took the loss, giving up an unearned over the final 2.1 innings
    • Samantha Ubben earned the no-decision after pitching the first 4.1 innings
    • Both teams accounted for seven hits
      • Bosch and Etherington paced the Raiders offense with two hits each
      • Homolka was the top hitter for Concordia, going 2/4 with two RBI
    • Moore (10-1) earned the complete-game win, striking out two
