The Northwestern College men's tennis team dominated Mount Marty in a 7-0 sweep against the Lancers in a non-conference match played today in Orange City.
The win pushed the Raiders match record to 4-4.
Northwestern won all six singles matches by 2-0 scores, including a 7-4 tie break in set two by
Chris Jelken at No.2. The Raiders swept the three doubles matches as well, including
Jack Roisum and
Noah Roisum earning their team-leading fourth win, a 6-0 victory at No.3.
Head Coach
Monte Tilgner, "I am extremely happy with how we played today in spite of the sustained winds of 20-25 mph with stronger gusts, which can make things pretty crazy in tennis. All the guys played very smart in the wind and we played probably our most consistent match of the year. All three doubles teams played well, winning their matches.
Aaron Schorg, playing his first varsity match of the year, did well on the #2 doubles team with
Bradley Bourland. Brothers Jack and
Noah Roisum completely dominated their #3 doubles match, not giving up a game. In singles, Brian VandenBerg played an excellent second set to dominate the Lancers top player. Senior
Chris Jelken played a very smart match, winning the second set in a tiebreaker.
Bradley Bourland,
Peyton Scott, and
Jack Roisum dominated each of their opponents, only losing three games in the six sets played in their combined matches. Nick Van Rijs played very good tennis winning against a tough opponent in Alex Tennant. This was a great way to get us prepared for conference play, which starts next week."
