Raider Baseball Drops Two Against Doane

The Northwestern College baseball team came up short in a pair of games played today against Doane University in Crete, Neb. The Raiders lost game one 10-3 and were defeated 9-8 in 11 innings in the nightcap; Northwestern is now 0-2 in the GPAC, 7-11 overall. 

Game One:  10-3 loss
  • Northwestern grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles by Sutton Derr and Josh Fakkema
  • Doane came back with two runs in the bottom of the first and took the lead for good with a single run in the second
  • the Tigers added five more runs in the third and two in the sixth for a 10-2 lead
  • Raider freshman Sam Stanford singled and came around to score the game's final run on a passed ball in the seventh
  • By the Numbers:
    • Northwestern was outhit 12-6 by the Tigers
    • Six Raiders had one hit each, all singles; Derr and Fakkema both drove in a run for Coach Wede's squad
    • Brady Roberts (1-3) took the loss, giving up 10 hits, four earned runs in five innings
    • Nate Rice allowed two runs in the sixth
    • Doane's Travis Cowan (2-2) earned the win with five hits and two runs allowed in six innings
    • Lukas White was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs
Game Two:  9-8 loss (11 innings)
  • Down 2-0, Northwestern grabbed the lead with a 3-run sixth on an RBI single by Stanford and two-run single by Fakkema
  • The Raiders pushed two runs across in the eighth and ninth innings for a 7-2 lead
  • Doane forced extra innings with a five-run, bottom of the ninth, scoring four of the runs with two outs
  • Northwestern grabbed the lead back (8-7) on an RBI double by Stanford, scoring Hunter Rynders
  • The host Tigers scored the tying and winning runs with two outs in the 11th; Jaryn Nakamoto hit a walkoff single
  • By the Numbers: 
    • Northwestern totaled 11 hits, led by Fakkema (3/6, 3 RBI), Eli Rash (2/6), Colton Harold (2/6, run), Stanford (2/6, 2 RBI)
