Mendez To Play Football at Northwestern

| By:
Javier Mendez (Spencer, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Northwestern College.

Mendez is a 6'3", 275-pound lineman who played three seasons for the Spencer High School football team. Mendez earned third team all-state accolades after leading his team to the state playoffs, a No.12 ranking in class 3A and 6-3 record. He helped pave the way for an offense that scored 29 touchdowns and gained over 2,500 yards. Mendez is a two-time all-district pick and plans to study Business at Northwestern. He is the son of Javier and Blanca.

"Javier is a very good football player," commented Northwestern head coach Matt McCarty. "He is a tough, physical blocker who we feel has a high ceiling in our program. Javier is a good fit and we look forward to working with him over the next four years."

"Northwestern is a place that pursues excellence both on and off the field," said Mendez. "I believe Northwestern will help me receive the best education and help me grow in my faith."
