Raiders Host Jamestown Wednesday Night

Game Time... (RV) Northwestern College will host the University of Jamestown Wednesday night in a conference match-up at the Bultman Center. Tip-off is set for 6pm.

Northwestern has won a season-high nine games and is receiving votes in the national poll with a 14-5 conference record, 14-8 overall. Jamestown is tied with Midland for seventh place in the GPAC with an 11-9 record, 14-9 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time rivalry 12-4, dating back to the 2006-07 season. The Raiders are 8-2 in their last 10 games against Jamestown.

Earlier This Year...The Northwestern College women's basketball team dropped a 70-65 decision against the University of Jamestown in a GPAC match-up played Nov.18 at the Harold Newman Arena.

A close game throughout with the largest lead (7) for either team when Jamestown went up 22-15 with one minute left in the first quarter. Northwestern's largest lead was five, midway in the second quarter after Maddie Jones and Emilee Danner scored consecutive baskets to go up 33-28. In total, there were 20 lead changes and three ties. 

With Jamestown leading 54-51 at the end of the third quarter, Northwestern moved ahead by one on baskets by Devyn Kemble and Alexis Toering with 8:47 left to play. The Raiders held the lead for the final time, 63-62, on another basket by Danner at the 1:49 mark. The host Jimmies closed the game with an 8-2 run, however, to earn the win. 

Northwestern shot 41% from the field, 22% (5/23) from beyond the arc, and was led by Danner with 12 points. Sammy Blum contributed 11 points and dished out a team-high six assists. Molly Schany and Taylor VanderVelde both scored eight points; Schany pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds, seven on the offensive end.

Jamestown shot 48% for the game, 50% (10/20) from the three-point line. Kia Tower scored a game-high 25 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists, one of four Jimmies players' to score in double figures.

Jamestown has lost two straight and three of its last four games heading into Wednesday night's contest. The Jimmies lost to Briar Cliff and Midland last week and dropped into a tie for seventh place in the GPAC with an 11-9 record, 14-9 overall. 

Sankey is in his third season as the Jimmies head coach and returns four starters, seven players, from a 2019-20 team that finished seventh in the GPAC with a 9-13 record, 16-15 overall. They were picked seventh in the GPAC preseason poll.

The Raiders have won nine straight games, their longest win streak since the 2018-19 season (12 consecutive), and are in third place in the GPAC standings with a 14-5 record, 14-8 overall. They defeated Mount Marty 73-50 last time out, their second victory against the Lancers this season.
