The Northwestern College men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches in their spring season debut, losing to Coe (9-0) and Wartburg (6-3). The Raiders are now 1-3 this year.

Juan Mackrey and Peyton Scott earned singles wins against Wartburg. Mackrey defeated Jackson Eells in straight sets, 6-3,6-1 at No.2 singles and Scott needed a tie-break but downed Jared Hefel, 6-4, 2-6 and 10-6. 

Noah Roisum and Jack Roisum won their match at No.3 doubles, an 8-7, tie-break win against Hefel / Hunter Gerhardt. 

"It was great to get a couple of matches in against tough NCAA D-III opponents," commented Northwestern Head Coach Monte Tilgner. "We opened up against Wartburg and were a little sluggish out of the gate. We had three close doubles matches but were only able to come away with one win. Freshmen Jack and Noah Roisum made a great comeback to get the first point on the board for us in their match. Brian and Juan had a heartbreaking loss in a tiebreaker and Chris and Bradley lost a well fought match as well. In singles, Juan played very well in his match as did Peyton Scott with them both coming up with wins. We played well, but came up short in a couple other matches, with Brian and Bradley losing in super tiebreakers. I really think if this was not our first match of the year, that we flip several of those matches and come out with a team win."
 
"Against Coe, it was obvious that they had already had three matches in this spring and are a very solid program. They are consistently conference champions and  have a great team. We had a lot of very good games, but in the end we were not able to win any matches. These matches will help us in knowing what to work on, and in our preparation towards conference matches about five weeks down the road."
