Twenty New Raider Recruits

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Northwestern College athletic communications office announces the signing of 20 athletic recruits for the month of November.

Men's Soccer

Keivy Reynoso (Rome, Ga.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career at Northwestern College.recruit_reynoso_2022

Reynoso is a three-time varsity letter winner from Sioux Center High School. In his most recent season Reynoso scored two goals and tallied one assist. His team finished 15-5 with a third-place finish in the Class 1A State Tournament. Reynoso earned first team all-conference honors.

"We are proud to announce Keivy's choice to attend Northwestern next fall," stated Head Coach Dan Swier. "He is a quality young man and will enrich our team in a variety of ways in the years to come."

Reynoso plans to study Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation at Northwestern. His is the son of Quique Reynoso and Irene Pérez.

"I would say the feeling of being welcomed," stated Reynoso about his decision to choose Northwestern. "I also want to grow as a person and player and I feel like Northwestern is the best place to do so."

Juan Ignacio Moya Escobar (Santiago, Chile) has signed a letter of intent to continue his soccer career at Northwestern College. recruits_zmoya_escobar_2022

Moya Escobar has netted four goals in his most recent season. He played for The Mayflower School and Sport Academy. His most recent season saw a second-place finish in the Interestadios League (2020). In the 2019-21 seasons Moya Escobar played in 17 games and netted eight goals and tallied four assists. He was honored with the Best Male Athlete of The Mayflower School award in 2018.

"We have developed a solid pipeline in Chile and we are pleased that Juan has kept that connection alive," said Head Coach Dan Swier. "He has played in a very successful club and has competed in some important matches in his career. We look forward to his future contributions."

Moya Escobar plans to study Business Administration at Northwestern. He finished a perfect 12th grade year in 2020. He is the son of Maria Jose Moya.

"I chose Northwestern because of the amazing possibilities to develop myself in different areas, such as the athletic, academic and my spiritual development," stated Moya Escobar.

Volleyball

Olivia Reitsma (Bellevue, Neb.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Northwestern College. recruit_reitsma_2022

Reitsma finishes her four-year high school volleyball career with 2,081 assists, 1,112 digs, 667 kills, and 132 aces. Rietsma's post season honors include Omaha World Herald's All-Metro Honorable Mention (2018, 2019, 2020), All-Class Honorable Mention (2018), All ITG Second Team (2019), Lincoln Journal Star's All-State Honorable Mention (2019, 2020).

"Liv comes to us after a great high school career as a setter and a right side attacker," noted Head Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. "She has the quickness, athleticism, and competitiveness to be a great setter in our program. Liv plays with a contagious energy that will fit in really well with the other quality young people in our program. We are pumped to add Liv to our volleyball team and are excited to see the contribution she will make both on and off the volleyball court here at NWC!"

Reitsma is a member of the National Honor Society and has three NPCA Academic All-State Awards to her name. She is the daughter of Erin and Ryan.

Volleyball & Women's Track and Field

Charlee Olson (Charleston, S.C.) has signed her letter of intent to continue both her volleyball and track and field careers at Northwestern College. recruit_olson_2022

Olson has participated in volleyball for five years and track and field for six years at Palmetto Christian Academy. While in high school Olson was chosen to compete in the North/South All-Star Game for volleyball and was selected all-region in 2020 and 2021. Her track career has seen a lot of success including four gold medals and the South Carolina Runner of the Year award for the state and regional track meets in 2021.

"Charlee is a good athlete that is a great jumper and has a quick arm," stated Head Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch. "She will improve her skill set in our program with being around the quality of players in our program.  We are excited to welcome Charlee into our volleyball program and our campus community."

Olson plans to study Communications and Personal Relations at Northwestern College. She is currently a chaplain of the National Honors Society. She is the daughter of Cameron and Heather.

"I chose Northwestern because I feel it is the best way for me to continue my academic and athletic career while still resuming the strong Christian education I've been blessed to have in high school," stated Olson. "I love the people at Northwestern and the change of scenery from Charleston and I'm so excited to call this place home for the next four years."

Women's Track and Field

Akeyma Fedders (Orange City, Iowa) has signed her letter of intent to continue her track and field career at Northwestern College. recruit_fedders_2022

Fedders has participated in track and field for four years at MOC-Floyd Valley. She was a state qualifier her junior season in the medley relay and was a member of the team that qualified for the Drake Relays that same season. Fedders was also a member of a conference championship team in 2021.

"We are excited to have Akeyma running for our Raider Track & Field team!" stated Head Coach Scott Bahrke. "She brings a great work ethic and is very coachable."

Fedders plans to study Business Management at Northwestern College. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was selected Academic All-Conference for volleyball. She is the daughter of JJ and Brent.

"I chose Northwestern because of the community feel the campus gave me," stated Fedders. "I can see myself growing academically, athletically, and in my faith at Northwestern."

Emma Blum (Bennington, Neb.) has signed a letter of intent to continue her track and field career at Northwestern College. recruit_e_blum_2022

Blum has participated in track and field for four years at Omaha Christian Academy. She placed fourth at the state meet in the 4x100 in 2019 and the 200 in 2021. Blum has also been a member of an all-conference runner-up team in 2021.

"Emma will make an awesome addition to our women's high jump and sprints crew," noted Head Coach Scott Bahrke. "We are pumped to have her joining our Raider Track & Field team!"

Blum plans to study Business Administration-Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship at Northwestern College. She is an honor roll member and a member of the National Honor Society. Blum was the recipient of the Believers and Achievers honor.

When asked about why she chose Northwestern Blum said, "It is a really good Christian school that is close to home."

Women's Cross Country & Women's Track and Field

Emily Haverdink (Orange City, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue both her cross country and track and field careers at Northwestern College. recruit_haverdink_2022

Haverdink is a four-time all-conference cross country runner including two conference championships. She was selected as an all-state cross country runner as well. In her junior season of track and field Haverdink finished seventh in the 3,000 m race and tenth in the 1,500 m at the state meet.

"We are blessed to have Emily joining our women's cross country and track teams here at Northwestern," stated Head Coach Scott Bahrke. "Emily is an amazing teammate and will help our women's distance crew continue to perform at a higher level."

Haverdink plans to study Exercise Science at Northwestern College. She was an academic all-conference selection and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Marlon and Cora Haverdink, and sister to Andrew and Rachel.

"I chose Northwestern because of the strong Christian community and the family atmosphere of the team," stated Haverdink. "I'm looking forward to the opportunities Northwestern can offer me both academically and athletically."

Football & Men's Track and Field

Luke Jeltema (Orange City, Iowa) has signed his letter of intent to continue his football and track and field career at Northwestern College. recruit_jeltema_2022

"Luke is an outstanding athlete with his best football ahead of him," said Head Coach Matt McCarty. "We are excited to have him join our secondary."

Jeltema played football for three years and track and field for four years at MOC-Floyd Valley. During his football career Jeltema accumulated 39 receptions for 517 yards and three touchdowns offensively. On the defensive side Jeltema notched 52.5 tackles, five interceptions, and recovered a fumble. He earned All-District honors and won the District Punter of the Year award for his efforts on the field. On the track Jeltema runs in the 100, 200, and 400 for the Dutchmen.

"We are excited to have Luke competing for our men's track & field team!" stated Head Coach Scott Bahrke. "He is very strong and explosive. It will be fun to watch him excel during his time as a Raider."

Jeltema was an All-District Academic honoree in addition to his on the field accolades. He is the son of Katie and Jon.

"I chose Northwestern because of the sense of family that both the campus and the teams give off," stated Jeltema. "I also believe that Northwestern provides an atmosphere that will help me thrive in academics and grow in my walk with Christ."

Women's Soccer

Grace Najera (Henderson, Nev.) has signed her letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Northwestern College. recruit_najera_2022

"Grace will be a great addition to our team," said Head Coach Shannon Andringa. "She is a skilled defender and loves the sport. Off the field, Grace will be a great fit on campus. She will fit in to our tight-knit community and I am excited to see her thrive!"

Najera plays for Coronado High School and for the Albion Las Vegas DPL team. She plays as an outside back and center back along the defensive back line. 

Najera plans to study Nursing at Northwestern. She is also an ROTC officer, beginning that her sophomore year. She is the head leader of the community service in her ROTC group. 

"They had everything I was looking for in a college," said Najera about her decision. "I love the community and love they share within the school."

Women's Basketball

Allison Piercy (Spencer, Iowa) has signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Northwestern College. recruit_allison_2022

Piercy is a multisport athlete from Spencer High School. During her athletic career she has accumulated unanimous 1st Team All-Conference and All-District for basketball and volleyball, 1st Team All-Conference for softball, and was a state track qualifier. During her junior season Piercy averaged 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game while shooting 42% from behind the arc. Thus far in her career Piercy has totaled 809 total points.

"We are excited to have Allison join our NWC women's basketball program," stated Head Coach Kristin Rotert. "She is a fantastic athlete and competitor who will be a great fit in our program."

Piercy plans to study Business at Northwestern College. She is a two-time Academic Excellence Award winner and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Darren and Christy.

"When I came to Northwestern on a visit, everyone was very welcoming," noted Piercy. "I have always enjoyed coming and watching the sporting events over the years. When I came to the basketball camp this past summer the team was very welcoming and it was a very good environment to be in! It felt like home!"

Men's Golf

Eric Munson (Tea, S.D.) has signed his letter of intent to continue his golf career at Northwestern College. recruit_eric_2022

Munson is a multisport athlete from Tea Area High School that has competed in golf for six years, track for three, and baseball and basketball for one season. Munson was a member of two state championship winning teams in 2018 and 2021. He was selected as an All-State golfer twice and had an 18-hole tournament low of 70.

"We are very excited to add Eric to our golf family," noted Head Coach Aaron Aberson. "He comes from an extremely successful high school program and has been a part of two state championship team. We're excited to see Eric's improvement over the next four years!"

Munson plans to study Business Administration and Finance at Northwestern College. He is a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student. He is the son of Joseph and Shelly.

Aiden Westra (Sioux City, Iowa) has signed his letter of intent to continue his golf career at Northwestern College. recruit_westra_2022

Westra has three years of varsity golf expereince at Sioux City East High School. He has a 18-hole tournament low score of 76 and averaged an 87 in his most recent season. Westra was named an all-conference golfer for his efforts on the course.

"We're excited to welcome Aiden to our golf family," stated Head Coach Aaron Aberson. "He's a great, young man with a servant heart and a strong desire to improve.  I can't wait to see what the next four years hold for Aiden on and off the course."

Westra plans to study Business and Sports Management at Northwestern College. He is a member of the National and Spanish Honor Societies. Westra is also on the Academic Honor Roll and has received academic honors. He is the son of Corey and Anne.

When asked why he chose Northwestern, Westra said "The people and the facilities." 

Women's Tennis

Olya Furmanova (Minsk, Belarus) has signed her letter of intent to continue her tennis career at Northwestern College. recruit_furmanova_2022

Furmanova is rated as a top 20 player in Belarus but was unable to compete in her most recent season due to the pandemic.

"We are so excited to bring Olya all the way from Belarus to play some NWC women's tennis," stated Head Coach Jamie De Jong. "Olya will bring us many years of training and competitive experience. I am confident that she will elevate us in the right direction."

Furmanova plans to study Nursing at Northwestern. She actively participated in scientific competitions among other school in Minsk, receiving outstanding results in chemistry, biology, and English. Furmanova is the daughter of Igor and Irina.

"I believe the nursing curriculum, tennis athletic program and inclusive community at Northwestern College will provide me with a great experience and help me identify and succeed in my future career," noted Furmanova. "I am looking forward to this new and exciting journey where I will grow personally and professionally on and off the court."

Baseball

Kale Dodge (Spencer, Iowa) has signed his letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_dodge_2022

Dodge has played two seasons of varsity baseball for Spencer High School. For his career he has a .329 batting average and an on base percentage of .424. He has lettered in both seasons and won the Steve Rehnstrom Award.

"We are excited for Kale and to add him to our team," said Head Coach Brian Wede. "He has a great work ethic and has gotten better every year of high school. We look forward to getting him in red and watching him continue to work himself into the best version of himself he can be."

Dodge plans to study Industrial Design at Northwestern. He is a four-year honor roll student. Dodge is the son of Luke Dodge and Jodi Verner.

"I am a big fan of the coach and atmosphere," stated Dodge about his commitment to Northwestern College.

Jacob Lewis (Charleston, S.C.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_lewis_2022

Lewis has played two seasons of varsity baseball for Oceanside Collegiate Academy. He has a career earned run average of 4.60 and a 3.34 ERA in his most recent season.

"Jacob is a great addition to our team," stated Head Coach Brian Wede. "He is a strong worker who will keep getting better. We really look forward to adding him to our program and watching him develop as a young man and as a pitcher."

Lewis plans to study Biochemistry at Northwestern College. He is the son of Robin and Jeff.

"I chose Northwestern because it's small, Christian, and liberal arts," stated Lewis.

Bryce Click (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_click_2022

Click has participated in baseball for five seasons and basketball for two at Sergeant Bluff-Luton. He has a career batting average of .330 including five homeruns with 46 runs batted in. From his catcher's position Click has thrown out 25 runners.

"We are really thrilled to add Bryce," said Head Coach Brian Wede. "He has been a high-level player in NW Iowa for multiple years. He brings a quality bat and good defensive skill along with a strong work ethic to our program."

Click plans to study Accounting at Northwestern. He is the son of Jeanna and Darin.

"The friendly homelike environment and the great people around the campus," was Click's answer to what drew him to Northwestern.

Joshua Lewis (Charleston, S.C.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_lewis_josh_2022

Lewis has played varsity baseball for two seasons for Oceanside Collegiate Academy. He has a career batting average of .272.

"We are excited to add Josh to our team," stated Head Coach Brian Wede. "He is a quality young man who is a really good fit for our team and our campus. He will help to create depth in our program and will be someone who brings a lot of energy to our program."

Lewis plans to study Biochemistry at Northwestern College. He is the son of Jeffrey and Robin.

"Northwestern College is a school that will help me to continue to grow in my faith and academics," stated Lewis.

Jakeb Swallow (Macon, Mo.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_swallow_2022

Swallow is a four-year varsity baseball player from Macon County R-1. He has earned All-Conference and All-District awards during his four-letter winning years. Swallow's most recent season saw him post an impressive earned run average of 0.618 in 34 innings pitched. He struck out 52 batters and hit for a 0.313 average.

"Jakeb is a really nice sign for us," stated Head Coach Brian Wede. "He is a talented left-handed pitcher who can keep hitter off balance in a number of different ways. We are excited to add him to our roster and work with him as he develops."

Swallow plans to study Business Administration at Northwestern College. He is the son of Jeremy and Cheryl.

"I chose Northwestern College for it's quality of education, as well as their amazing campus," noted Swallow. "Also, they have an amazing baseball program, with amazing people in the program."

Aidan Sieperda (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_sieperda_2022

Sieperda completed a very impressive season for Sergeant Bluff-Luton with a 6-3 record and in 53 innings pitched had a 4.62 earned run average with opponents batting .255. At the plate he notched 42 hits for a .362 batting average including three homeruns and 43 runs batted in.  Sieperda earned first team All-District and second team All-Conference honors.

"Aidan is a really exciting sign for us," noted Head Coach Brian Wede. He is a very versatile athlete who can provide quality play on the mound and at the plate. Aidan is a great fit for what we look for in an athlete and is someone we think will develop into a really important piece of our team in the next four years."

Sieperda plans to study Marketing and Finance at Northwestern College. He is the son of Adley and Ayla.

When asked what made him choose Northwestern Sieperda stated, "A great campus with great facilities and great people."

Isaac Short (Grimes, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College. recruit_short_2022

Short has completed two season of varsity baseball for Dallas Center-Grimes. He posted a .191 batting average with a .277 slugging percentage and four doubles.

"We are thrilled to add Isaac to our program," said Head Coach Brian Wede. "Isaac is a high-quality worker who will keep getting better. His dedication to baseball and being the best he can be is really good and we have a lot of confidence he will work himself into a quality player for our program."

Short plans to study Political Science and Economics at Northwestern College. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, and DECA. He is the son of Tim and Pam.

"I chose Northwestern College because of the academic opportunities, and the culture that I saw on my visits," stated Short. "I also love the location this is close to home and has great facilities. I see Northwestern as a great place to grow my faith as a student-athlete."
