Wrestling Struggles at Raider Duals

Sunday, November 21, 2021

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The (RV) Northwestern College wrestling team (2-3, 1-1 GPAC) struggled at their Raider Duals today inside the Four Courts Center on the campus of Northwestern College, dropping all three team duals.

"Overall, not a good day. We struggled in basic situations and couldn't capitalize when we did get them out of position," said head coach Rik Dahl. "We did have some bright spots. Luke Jenness (So., Primghar, Iowa/Sheldon) went 3-0 and Jakob Francksen-Small (Fr., Merrill, Iowa/Le Mars Community) and Manny Jaramillo (Jr., Selma, Calif./Selma) went 2-0."

Jamestown 34, Northwestern 19
The first match win came from Jaramillo at 133 when he pinned Jamestown's Donovan Adams at 3:41, giving the Raiders a 6-4 lead. A 14-10 swing for the Jimmies would give them an 18-16 lead heading into 197. Jenness would pick up the win with a 14-8 decision over Joshua Goeden, giving Northwestern a slight one-point advantage. A fall at 285 would clinch the dual for the Jimmies.

St. Ambrose 24, Northwestern 23
The Fighting Bees jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead after the first four bouts, thanks to two falls, a major decision, and a technical fall.

The Raiders would battle back with 14 straight points of their own. A technical fall for Rodriquez (22-5) and a fall for Francksen-Small (0:34) helped guide the Northwestern spurt.

St. Ambrose would clinch the match at 184, despite a fall and a decision at 285 and 197, respectively. Siebert picked up his fall at 2:38.

Benedictine 21, Northwestern 16
In the final dual of the day, an 11-0 swing for the Ravens of Benedictine (Kan.) from 141 to 157 would be all they would need to finish off the Raiders.

Despite a fall from Pomajzl at 1:14 at 165, the 6-3 decision for Benedictine at 174 clinched the Raven victory.

Northwestern wouldn't quit, picking up match decisions at 197 (Jenness, 9-4) and 285 (Siebert, 4-1) to make the final score 21-16.

"The guys wrestled hard and tried to get momentum going," finished Dahl. "Several other guys went 2-1, including Erik Rodriguez (FR., Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay), Blake Pomajzl (Jr., Sedalia, Mo./Smith-Cotton), and Lincoln Siebert (Fr., Burns, Wyo./Burns)."

Up Next: The Raiders won't hit the mat again until December 1 when they battle the Tigers of Doane University in Sioux City, Iowa, scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
