FREMONT, Neb. – Freshman
Stan van den Beld (Voorhout, Netherlands/Rijnlands Lyceum Sassenheim) nets the game-winning goal over the Midland Warriors (5-7, 2-4 GPAC) as the Northwestern College men's soccer team (11-1-1, 7-0 GPAC) remains perfect in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action this season.
In a match where the Warriors of Midland University gave the Raiders all they could handle, it was the No. 21-ranked Northwestern squad walking off the pitch with the 1-0 victory to keep their unblemished GPAC record in tack.
The Warriors held possession of the ball most of the match, getting 13 shots up to Northwestern's five. The only difference being all five of the Raider shots were quality and on-goal, while only six of Midland's were on goal. Then in the 63
rd minute, van den Beld would find the back of the net to walk out of Fremont with the win.
The freshman now has three goals on the season, bringing him equal with
Niklas Fitter (Fr., Sankt Augustin, Germany/Rhein Sieg Gymnasium) for the second-most goals scored on the team.
Tim Kaltenberger (So., Cologne, Germany/Max Ernst Gymnasium) notched his second assist of the season on the lone goal in the match.
Goalkeeper
Ezekiel Foltz (Jr., Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center) picked up six saves in the goal and recording his sixth shutout of the season and fifth in league play. He and the Raider backline have now shutout their last three opponents, all in GPAC matches.
Up Next: Northwestern travels to Sioux Center on Wednesday, Oct. 13 for a midweek GPAC clash with arch-rival the Dordt Defenders. Kickoff is slated for 8:00 p.m.
