SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – For the third consecutive match, the Northwestern College men's soccer team (12-1-1, 8-0 GPAC) scores four or more goals in a dominant 6-1 road victory against arch-rival the Dordt University Defenders (2-10-2, 1-6 GPAC).
Juan Mackrey (Sr., Balcare, Argentina/Georgia Military College) wasted no time in the match, scoring in the second minute of the match thanks to the assist from reigning GPAC Offensive Player of the Week
Stan van den Beld (Fr., Voorhout, Netherlands/Rijnlands Lyceum Sassenheim). Not even a minute later,
Joshua Wingfield (Sr., Bronx, N.Y./Polytech) joined in with his first goal of the match to make it 2-0 early within the first five minutes of the match.
The Raiders would keep their foot on the pedal and keep the pressure on the Dordt defense all night long. In the 10
th minute, Wingfield would find the back of the net again with the assist credited to
Tim Kaltenberger (So., Cologne, Germany/Max Ernst Gymnasium).
The 30
th minute saw
Niklas Fitter (Fr., Sankt Augustin, Germany/Rhein Sieg Gymnasium) connect on a penalty kick to extend the Raider lead to 4-0, as that would be the halftime score between the two squads.
Early in the second half, van den Beld had a beautiful cross that was finished with a stunning header from
James Bolger (Jr., Boyle, Republic of Ireland/Abbey Community College) to make the Raider lead 5-0.
The final Raider goal of the evening came in the 59
th minute in an unassisted goal by the team's leading goal scorer Mackrey, his second score of the night. The Defenders would get on the board in the 81
st minute to break up Northwestern's three-match shutout streak.
Northwestern tallied 14 shots on the match to Dordt's four. Freshman goalkeeper
Pablo Aspas (Fr., Valencia, Spain/Escola Pia Gandia) picked up his first minutes of the season and his career, replacing
Ezekiel Foltz (Jr., Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center) in the second half.
Up Next: The Raiders will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. a week from tonight for a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) showdown with the Saints of Presentation College (1-9, 0-7 GPAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 20 as the team has this upcoming Saturday off.
