ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College women's soccer team (4-8-1, 1-5-1 GPAC) dropped their match to the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) (6-5, 3-3 GPAC).
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with a 5
th minute goal by Jozy Bardsley. A long pass that took an awkward bounce found Bardsley in a breakaway situation and she put away her seventh goal of the season to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Raiders offense was unable to find an early rhythm as DWU deployed a stout defense. The Tigers pieced together another attack in the 24
th minute and Bardsley found the bottom left corner to put the Tigers ahead 2-0. The Raiders continued to battle but the offense couldn't quite find consistent possession and the half ended with DWU ahead 2-0.
The second half saw an early push from the Raiders' offense resulting in a corner opportunity and a series of shots, none of those finding the back of the net. Possession was more even in the second half as the Raiders were able to piece together more attacks and create more shot opportunities. Bardsley was able to get behind the defense but a diving save by junior goalie
Kaelin Alons (Orange City, Iowa/Unity Christian) kept the score as is in the 81
st minute.
The Raiders were out shot for the game 16-5, with four of the Raiders' shots being on frame.
Abby Bastian (So., Brandon, S.D./Brandon Valley) started in the net for the Raiders and played the first half with Alons taking over for the second 45. Each keeper was able to make two saves. Bastian's record in the net falls to 0-2.
Up Next: The Raiders will be on the road for their next match on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Midland with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
