No. 14 Volleyball Picks Up Fourth Straight Win with 3-0 Victory Over Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. – The No. 14-ranked Northwestern College volleyball team (16-7, 8-5 GPAC) remained hot picking up their second consecutive straight sets victory in the state of Nebraska this weekend, downing the Hastings College Broncos (14-12, 5-9 GPAC) this afternoon.

Another matched guided by strong attacks, propelled the Raiders to pick up 47 kills and a .357 hitting percentage – the second straight match hitting over .300 as a team. Also, for the second straight match, it was Alysen Dexter (Fr., Urbandale, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) and Bekah Horstman (Sr., Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian) leading the Raider attack with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Junior Jadeyn Schutt (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) tallied 30 assists in the match.

Northwestern got off to a fast start in the opening set, taking an early 4-0 lead. Two more 4-0 spurts landed the Raiders with an 18-9 lead. Schutt would set up Horstman for the final kill of the set as the Raiders took it 25-15.

The second set was much more competitive. Northwestern led 21-19 when Hastings pulled off four straight points to take a 23-21 lead. The Raiders would battle back to take a 24-23 lead, that would quickly shift to a 25-24 lead for the Broncos. But three straight points for the Raiders, thanks to kills from Katie Peters (Jr., Le Mars, Iowa/Gehlen Catholic) and Horstman propelled the Raiders to take the set 27-25.

The Raiders again make rather quick work in the final set, hitting a superb .500 on the match with 16 kills on 30 attempts. Runs of four- and five-points put the nail in the coffin as the Raiders took the final set 25-12.

Hastings offense couldn't get anything going, tallying only 27 kills. The Raiders were able to get five blocks to help stymie the Broncos offense. Peters and Horstman both picked up two blocks a piece.

Up Next: The Raiders are set to host arch-rival and No. 16-ranked the Dordt Defenders on Wednesday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Bultman Center on the campus of Northwestern College.
