Raiders Fall to Hastings on Senior Day

Story Links

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The No. 19-ranked Northwestern College men's soccer team (13-2-1, 9-1 GPAC) dropped a hard-fought match on Senior Day at the NWC Complex to the Hastings College Broncos (8-4-2, 7-2-1 GPAC) 1-0.

Hastings converted on the lone goal of the match in the 11th minute on a Tyler Mase goal.

The Broncos defense was able to hold the Raider attack in check all afternoon, only allowing two Raider shots and only one of them being on goal. Senior Juan Mackrey (Balcare, Argentina/Georgia Military Academy) put the shot on goal for Northwestern.

Though not the way they wanted to end their careers at the NWC Soccer Complex, the men's soccer program celebrated the career accomplishments of six Raiders at their final regular season game in Orange City. See below head coach Dan Swier's comments on his six seniors.

Tomas Rojas (Santiago, Chile/The English Institute/Economics Major)
"Tomas came to Northwestern with a desire to be a part of something special.  Little did he know, he would become a major contributor to the special brotherhood that so many young men have experienced as a part of this program in recent years. Tomas has been voted by his teammates as the most dedicated player in two of the last three seasons."

Ryan Wager (Huron, S.D./James Valley Christian/Exercise Science Major with Pre-Physical Therapy concentration)
"Ryan has been a steady presence in our program, modeling high levels of commitment and dedication over the last four years. His example has inspired many of his teammates to buy in to our team standards over the years. He is a 2-year letter winner and team captain, and scored the game-winning goal in the first match of the season this fall."

Joshua Wingfield (Bronx, N.Y./Polytech/Sport Management Major)
"Josh is a 3-year letter winner and has played in nearly 50 matches as a Red Raider, but he will likely be remembered more for his infectious personality and recognizable laugh. On the field he has accumulated 8 career goals and 2 assists to date."

Brennan Haggerty (Freeman, S.D./Freeman Academy/Nursing Major)
"Brennan has been a mainstay in the line-up over the last 4 seasons, playing in 65 matches to date as a Red Raider. In his career he has scored 2 goals and provided 9 assists. Brennan is a 4-year letter winner, current captain, and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors in 2020."

Juan Mackrey (Balcare, Argentina/Georgia Military Academy/Exercise Science & Economics Major)
"Juan transferred to Northwestern as a junior and has become an integral part of the team's success on the field in this, his third season in the program. Juan has accumulated 18 career goals, and 3 career assists to date. He has scored 4 game-winning goals this season, and was the team-voted offensive POY in 2020.  He is a 3-year letter winner and a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete."

Seth Druin (Vermillion, S.D./Vermillion/Exercise Science Major with Pre-Physical Therapy concentration)
"While Seth only made 11 appearances in his career as a Red Raider, his impact on the program has been tremendous. Few team members put their head down and work as hard as he has, on the field and in the weight room, in the last several years. We love it when young men lead with their actions the way Seth has.  He is also a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete."

Up Next: The Raiders will travel to Doane next Saturday, October 30 to conclude the regular season schedule. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. in Crete, Neb.
