ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northwestern College men's soccer team (13-1-1, 9-0 GPAC) downs the Presentation College Saints (2-10, 1-8 GPAC) 3-0 while battling a swamped soccer pitch and extending their win streak to nine matches.
This afternoon's match was highlighted not only by Raider goals, but the horrendous playing conditions the two teams found themselves playing in. Constant rain made the field a swamp with standing water all over the pitch, forcing the game to be called in the 70
th minute due to unsafe playing conditions.
For the second straight match senior
Juan Mackrey (Balcare, Argentina/Georgia Military College) started the scoring early as he converted what proved to be the game-winning goal in the fourth minute on the fifth assist of the season from
Stan van den Beld (Fr., Voorhout, Netherlands/Rijnlands Lyceum Sassenheim).
In the 27
th minute
James Bolger (Jr., Boyle, Republic of Ireland/Abbey Community College) joined the scoring with yet another beautiful header to put the Raiders up 2-0 heading into the halftime break. Bolger has now netted six goals on the season. The goal was assisted by
Luc Roelofs (So., Nederasselt, Netherlands/Kandinsky College), marking his team-leading sixth assist.
Bolger would net his second goal of the game – seventh of the season – in the 64
th minute to round out the Raider scoring on the match.
Brennan Haggerty (Sr., Freeman, S.D./Freeman Academy) was credited with the assist, his third of the year.
Ezekiel Foltz (Jr., Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center) picked up three saves in goal for Northwestern and picked up his 13
th win of the season.
Up Next: The Raiders conclude their home slate on Saturday when the (RV) Hastings College Broncos come to town for a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) clash for a 4:15 p.m. kickoff at the NWC Soccer Complex.
