Game Time... The Northwestern College men's basketball team is set to make the long trip west to play Hastings in the second match-up between the two rivals. Tip-off on Saturday, Jan. 23 is set for 4pm. Northwestern has won four straight and is 9-5 in the GPAC, 14-5 overall; Hastings sits in 10th place in the current GPAC standings with a 2-12 record. 6-13 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern has won four straight and seven of the last 10 games against Hastings. They lead the all-time series 37-22, dating back to the 1985-86 season.

Last Time vs Hastings... Alex Van Kalsbeek poured in a career-high 35 points as Northwestern rolled to a 111-79 home win against Hastings in a conference match-up played Dec.5 at the Bultman Center. 

Van Kalsbeek was one missed shot from perfection as the freshman made 15-of-16 field goal attempts and made all five free throw attempts en route to the first 30-point game of his career.

Keegan Van Egdom scored all of his career-high 18 points from beyond the arc and pulled down 11 rebounds for his second career double-double. Jay Small contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds, his seventh double-double, to go with six assists. Craig Sterk (13pts) and Issac Heyer (12pts) also scored in double figures, giving Head Coach Kris Korver's squad five players in double figures.

Mason Hiemstra and Karson Gansebom led Hastings with 19 points each and Ben Juhl netted 16.

The Broncos picked up their second conference win of the season last time out, defeating Mount Marty 96-92 in overtime Wednesday night. The victory was the Bronocs second in the last three games and third since the beginning of the new year. They are currently 2-12 and in 10th place in the GPAC, 1/2 game in back of Midland and 1/2 game ahead of Doane. Hastings is 6-13 overall and holds a conference win over Doane for their other league victory.

Gavers in his eighth season with the Broncos program, filling the role of head coach after a 22-year career as a high school coach at Grand Island. Gavers returns one starter, five players, from a 2019-20 team that placed eighth in the GPAC with an 8-12 record, 16-16 overall.
