Raiders Fall Short In Match-Up Between Unbeatens

Northwestern is now 2-1 this season

The Northwestern College men's soccer team lost to Briar Cliff 5-2 in a match-up of unbeaten teams played this afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. The Raiders drop to 0-1 in the GPAC, 2-1 overall; Briar Cliff improves its mark to 2-0 in conference play, 3-0 overall. 

Briar Cliff led 1-0 at the half, scoring the lone goal at the seven-minute mark by Danny Baca off a set play. The Chargers scored again early in the second frame on a golf from Marcus Haywood to take a 2-0 lead at the 54-minute mark. 

James Bolger cut the Raider deficit to 2-1 when he found the back of net off an assist from Brennan Haggerty during the 67th minute. Four minutes later, Briar Cliff extended its lead to 3-1 on a goal from Rodrigo Oliveira. Northwestern's Jacey McFaddin made it a one-goal game once again when he scored an unassisted goal with eight minutes left. The Chargers scored a pair of unanswered goals during the final seven minutes, one by Gabriel Moretto and another by Horwood, to put the final tally at 5-2.

Northwestern was outshot 13-5; McFaddin, Bolger, Haggerty, Jake Foscalina and Joshua Wingfield all had one shot on goal. Ezekiel Foltz recorded seven saves for Head Coach Dan Swier's squad.

Leandro Faria totaled three saves for the Chargers.
