Raiders Host College of Saint Mary For GPAC Opener

Game Time...Northwestern College will host College of Saint Mary on Wednesday night, Sept. 16, in the GPAC opener for both teams. The match is scheduled to start at 7pm. The Raiders played Briar Cliff to a 0-0 double-overtime tie last weekend; the Flames have not played this season.

All-Time...Northwestern is 4-7 all-time against the Flames, dating back to the 1995 season. The teams have alternated wins in each of the last six years with Northwestern earning a 4-1 win against CSM last year.

The Flames just missed out on postseason play in 2019, finishing a game behind both Northwestern and Morningside and in ninth place in the GPAC regular season with a 5-5-2 record. They went 8-7-3 overall and defeated Mount Marty 1-0 in their last game played in 2019. 

Irsik returns for her third season as the Flames head coach and brings back nine starters, 17 players from last year's team. CSM was picked to finish ninth out of 12 teams in the GPAC preseason coaches poll.

Northwestern News and Notes: 0-0-1        Head Coach: Ben Karnish (8th year)

The Raiders played to a scoreless draw against Briar Cliff last weekend in a non-conference and season-opening match played in Orange City. Northwestern totaled eight shots on goal, two each by Julie Dunlap, Maria Lopes and Emily Hurley. Kaelin Alons, making her second career start, stopped 14 BCU shots for her first career shutout. 

Karnish owns a 65-59-11 overall record in his seven seasons as head coach, owning the most wins and best win percentage in program history. Raider teams have finished among the top five in the GPAC in five of his seven seasons. Karnish returns six starters and 13 letter winners from the 2019 season.
