The Event...The Northwestern College men's tennis team is scheduled to make its fall season debut with a non-conference match against Mount Marty on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Tuesday's action gets underway in Orange City around 5:30pm.Â

Monte Tilgner is set to begin his second season as the head of the Raiders men's tennis program and returns nearly everyone from a 2019-20 squad that finished wth a 2-3 overall record in a CoVid shortened seaeson. The Raiders split a couple of matches last fall, defeating Mount Marty 4-2 and losing to Buena Vista 6-3. Tilgner's squad went 1-2 in the spring, defeating Central 5-4 and losing to Grand View and Iowa Central Community College.Â
Brian Vander Berg went 2-3 as the Raiders top player in both singles and doubles as a freshman last season.
Chris Jelken, now in his third season with the program, went 1-1 last fall in the No.2 singles spot. Nic Van Rijs posted an 0-2 record in both singles and doubles play and is fully healthy after an injury that forced him to miss last spring.
Peyton Scott (1-4 singles, 2-2 doubles),
Aaron Schorg (1-2 singles and doubles) and
Caleb Ketelsen (1-3 doubles) are the other returners for Coach Tigner.Â
About Mount Marty...The Lancers went 0-2 in a shortened 2019-20 season, losing to the Raiders (4-2) and Morningside (7-0).Â
