Red Raiders Open Season With Sweep Over Waldorf

Northwestern College pounded out 24 hits in a double-header sweep against Waldorf in the season opener for both teams played at the Packer Dome in Austin, Minn. The Red Raider defeated Waldorf 13-3 (5 innings) in game one and came away with an 11-3 win in game two. 

Game 1 Recap: 13-3 (5 innings)

Northwestern plated six runs in the top of the first and scored at least one run in every inning to defeat Waldorf 13-3 in game one of the doubleheader. 

Jennifer Boeve accounted for three of the Red Raiders' 12 hits, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Bri Giordano, Jordyn Kramer and Emily Strasser added two hits each with Strasser driving in three. 

Giordano belted a two-run double and Strasser had a two-run single in the Red Raiders six-run first inning. Alayna Bakke and Kramer both hit RBI doubles in the two-run second and Boeve drove in a pair of runs in the two-run third inning. 

Sydnee Isom (1-0) earned the win, giving up four hits, three runs in two innings. Samantha Ubben pitched three scoreless inning in relief to pick up her first save. 

Game 2 Recap: 11-3

The Red Raiders totaled 12 hits and scored in all but one inning in their 11-3 game two win.

Bosch, Grotewald, Giordano and Bakke all had two hits to lead Head Coach Shane Bouman's squad. Grotewald and Bakke both drove in two and Bosch plated three runs. 

Ubben (1-0) earned the win, giving up two hits, two runs, in five innings. Emma Schnell allowed one run over the final two innings with two strikeouts.
