Northwestern College dropped a pair of games played at the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament, an event hosted this weekend by St.Cloud State in St. Cloud, Minn. The Red Raiders lost game one to the host team, 8-0 (6 innings), and then fell to Bemidji State 9-4 in the second.Â
Game 1:
8-0 loss to St. Cloud State
Northwestern was limited to just one hit in its 8-0, six-inning loss to St.Cloud State in the early afternoon game.
Emily Strasser hit a two-out single in the fifth inning and a walk by
Madysn Grotewold in the first were the lone baserunners against St.Cloud State pitchers Kylie Thomsen (1-0) and Lauren Kirchberg. Thomsen earned the victory, walking one and striking out five over the first four innings.Â
St.Cloud State scored five runs in the bottom of the first, sending all nine players to bat in the inning. Haley McFarlane smacked a two-run home run and Jasmin Estrada added an RBI single. They scored two more in the fifth and ended the game early with a run in the sixth.
Emma Schnell (0-1) allowed seven hits, five runs over two innings to factor in the decision.
Sydnee Isom pitched the final 3.1 innings in relief.
Game 2: 9-4 loss to Bemidji State
Bri Giordano and
Jordyn Kramer had two hits each in the Red Raiders 9-4 loss to Bemidji State in the second game. Kramer drove in two while
Emily Bosch,
Jennifer Boeve,
Emily Strasser and
Madysn Grotewold all contributed one hit each.Â
Samantha Ubben gave up eight hits, four runs over the first five innings and did not factor in the decision. Isom (1-1) took the loss and Schnell pitched the final 1.2 innings.
With Northwestern up 4-2 after Head Coach
Shane Bouman's squad scored three in the fourth, BSU plated three runs in the top of the fifth, including a go-ahead, three-run home run by Elaina Christiansen. The Beavers plated four insurance runs in the top of the seventh.Â
Christiansen and Lexi Derrick totaled three hits each and Gabi Bingham and Sami Dullum added two.
