Women's Basketball Hosts Doane

Game Time... The Northwestern College women's basketball team looks to build on its momentum gained from Wednesday night's win over #9 Dordt when they host Doane for another GPAC match-up this weekend. Tip-off on Saturday, Feb. 8 is scheduled for 2pm. Northwestern is in seventh place in the current GPAC standings with an 8-9 record, 13-9 overall; Doane is in 12th place in the GPAC at 1-16, 2-20 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern leads the all-time series 35-27 (since the 1986-87 season) but is just 6-4 over the last 10 games against the Tigers.

Last Time vs Doane...Balanced scoring and a big first quarter were the keys in leading No.12 Northwestern to an 85-44 road win over Doane in a GPAC match-up played in Crete, Neb. on Jan.4

Bre Schuiteman scored a game-high 14 points to go with four rebounds and four assists. Emilee Danner and Jada Cunningham provided the scoring punch coming off the bench with 13 and 12 points, respectively. The duo combined to make four three-pointers.

Northwestern scored the first seven points and raced out to a 14-2 advantage following a three-pointer from Cunningham at the halfway point of the first quarter. Leading 26-6, the Red Raiders ended the quarter by scoring the final seven points via a three-pointer by Schuiteman and lay-ups by Maddie Jones and Alexis Toering for a 33-6 lead.

Since earning its only win in conference play, a 72-63 win against College of Saint Mary on Jan.23, Doane has dropped three straight. Losses to Dordt, Mount Marty and Concordia have put the Tigers in 12th place in the GPAC at 1-16, 2-20 overall. Doane's other win this season is against Haskell (Kan.)

Baumgartner inherits a Tigers team that returns two starters and three players from a squad that finished 2018-19 with a 3-19 league record, 6-23 overall, in former head coach Tracee Fairbank's final season.
