Jennifer Boeve hit a grand slam in her team's five-run, fifth inning to lead Northwestern to an 8-3 win over (RV) Bellevue in game one of a doubleheader played today in Omaha, Neb. Game two went in the Bruins favor, 3-1; Northwestern is now 5-3 on the season, Bellevue is 3-1.
Game One: 8-3 winÂ
Down 3-2, Northwestern went ahead for good with a five-run fifth inning to take game one, 8-3.
Emma Schnell began the rally with a leadoff single, followed by a single by
Jessica Harald and a walk to
Emily Bosch that loaded the bases.
Madysn Grotewold followed with an RBI single, scoring courtesy runner
Kaylen Kuchel, to tie the score at three. Boeve came to the plate and belted a grand slam, her first home run of the season, to put her team up 7-3. In total, six Red Raider players reached base at the start of the innng.
Northwestern scored an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI groundout hit by
Jordyn Kramer, scoring Bosch.Â
Head Coach
Shane Bouman's squad totaled eight hits, three by Grotewold who also scored a run and had an RBI.
Bri Giordano added two hits and Boeve, Schnell and Harald had the other hits.Â
Samantha Ubben (3-0) stayed unbeaten with a complete-game win, giving up five hits and three runs. Ubben struck out three and held Bellevue scoreless over the final five innings.Â
Bellevue was led by Lauren Jurek, who went 1-for-1 with 2 RBI.
Game Two: 3-1 loss
Bellevue scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to defeat the Red Raiders in game two, 3-1.
Kramer tied the game at one with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, scoring Grotewold from second base. The Bruins, however, went ahead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning off a double by Ashley Young and single by Randi Henry.Â
Emma Schnell (1-2) took the loss, giving up seven hits and three runs in 4.2 innings. Ubben piched the final 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Northwestern managed three hits in game two, all by Kramer.
Cory Carrillo (2-0) earned the win, giving up three hits and one run in the full seven innings. Carrillo walked three and struck out seven.
