Box Score 2 Emily Strasser scored the winning run on a squeeze bunt from
Jessica Harald to cap an eight-run comeback and lead Northwestern to an 11-10, 8-inning win against Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in the second game at the Tucson Invitational. The Red Raiders downed a ranked Madonna (Mich.) squad, 5-3, in game one.Â
The Red Raiders have won five of their last six games and improve to 7-3 this season.
Game Two: 12-11 (8) win vs Cardinal Stritch
Down 11-3 in the third, Northwestern began the rally with two runs in the third with an RBI double from
Bri Giordano and run scoring single by
Emma Schnell.
Jordyn Kramer drove in Giordano for a single run in the fourth and
Alayna Bakke belted a two-run double made the score 11-8 in the sixth. Schnell followed with a double, getting the Red Raiders to within 11-9.
Schnell escpaed a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for the Red Raiders to push two runs across and tie the game at 11.
Madysn Grotewold singled, scored after a Giordano triple, who came across on a wild pitch.
Game One: 5-3 win vs (RV) Madonna
Samantha Ubben pitched into the sixth inning in leading Northwestern to a 5-3 win over a ranked Crusaders team in game one. Ubben, who improved to 4-0 this season, allowed six hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings. Schnell earned her first save, pitching the final 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Northwestern outhit Madonna 9-7 and took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning.
Emily Bosch had an RBI single and
Jennifer Boeve smacked a two-out, two-run double. The Red Raiders went up 5-1 when Grotewold reached base on an error and scored after a groundout by Giordano.Â
Madonna scored two runs in the sixth before Schnell retired the final two batters with a runner at second.Â
