Women's Basketball AT DWU Wednesday Night

Game Time... (RV) Northwestern College begins its final week of the regular season with a road match-up against 13th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night, Feb. 19. Tip-off at the Corn Palace is scheduled for 6pm. The Red Raiders are on a four-game win streak, defeating two ranked teams, and are in sixth place in the GPAC with an 11-9 record, 16-9 overall. Ranked 13th in the last coaches' poll, DWU has also won four straight and is tied with Dordt for fourth place in the league standings at 13-7, 20-8 overall.

All-Time...Northwestern holds a 39-22 advantage in the all-time series but is just 2-8 in their last 10 games and 1-4 in their last five against DWU.

Last Time vs DWU...12th-ranked Northwestern lost to No.14 Dakota Wesleyan 82-56 in a conference match-up between ranked teams played Jan.8 at the Bultman Center. 

Bre Schuiteman led Northwestern with 13 points and Devyn Kemble scored 12, the lone players to score in double figures for the Red Raiders. Jada Cunningham added eight points and Alexis Toering filled up the stat sheet with four points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

    #13 Dakota Wesleyan Tigers: 13-7 (T4th), 20-8            Head Coach: Jason Christensen (10th year)


The Tigers have played some of their best basketball of late, winning their last four and six of their last seven games, heading into Wednesday night. They are tied with Dordt for fourth place in the GPAC at 13-7, two games ahead of Northwestern and one game in back of third place Morningside. Dakota Wesleyan own a 20-8 record and lost to Concordia 69-67 for its only loss since Jan. 25.

Christensen is in the midst of his 10th season as the Tigers head coach, accumulating over 200 wins during his time and being the program's all-time leader in victories. He guided the 2017-18 team to the NAIA D-II National Title and returns three starters, six players from last year's squad that lost to Southeastern (Fla.) in the national semifinals to finish with a 31-6 overall record.

The Red Raiders have won four straight games, defeating ranked teams, Dordt and Jamestown, during the streak. They are in sole possession of sixth place in the GPAC with an 11-9 record, two games in back of Dordt and DWU and two games in front of Jamestown with two left to play. Northwestern is 16-9 overall and received votes in the last NAIA Coaches poll.
